December 2021 Kent ISD MTSS Update
In an effort to be the first choice for educational services that allow every student in every classroom to achieve every day, Kent ISD is committed to providing a continuum of supports for local districts as they implement an integrated academic and behavioral Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.  Our team works to develop local leadership teams who facilitate and support quality systems resulting in sustainable changes that increase achievement for ALL students.
What's New?
  • The Kent ISD MTSS Team is excited to welcome our new MTSS Consultant, John Mudie, to the team. John comes to us from Montcalm Area ISD where he spent the last eight years working as both a Special Education Teacher Consultant and an MTSS Coordinator.
  • With the addition of the new MTSS Consultant position, our team has added capacity to provide more focused trainings on Classroom PBIS. We are looking for feedback from educators to determine the best timing and format of these sessions. If your district is interested, please complete this brief survey
  • The MTSS Data Review and Problem-Solving Process is now aligned with Michigan's Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP). Districts that partner with Kent ISD engage in this process three times per year allowing them to update targets and document improvements throughout the year.
  • The Kent ISD MTSS Team will be participanting in an MTSS Strategic Planning targeted assistance initiative with the MiMTSS Technical Assistance Center. Sessions begin this winter. Look for more information in future updates.
Accomplishments
in the Districts
Despite the continued impacts of COVID-19 in our schools this year, there is still much to celebrate in our MTSS Districts.
  • This year the MTSS team began a partnership with Northview Public Schools! Their district team has completed the District Installation Series and the first group of schools is getting ready to start PBIS training in January.
  • In our partnering districts who reported reading screening data in Fall 2020 and Fall 2021, 88% of elementary buildings saw an increase in the percent of students at or above benchmark.
  • All elementary buildings in Caldedonia, Cedar Springs, Grandville, Lowell and Thornapple Kellogg are implementing Tier 1 PBIS with fidelity as measured by a score of at least 70% on the School-Wide PBIS Tiered Fidelity Inventory.
  • In Cedar Springs, all secondary buildings met the target for PBIS implementation fidelity as well!
  • Our partnering districts are continuing to focus on building and maintaining their capacity to support MTSS implementation in thier buildings. This fall 73% are demonstrating full capacity or increasing their capacity as measured by the District Capacity Assessment.
MTSS implementation continues to grow throughout the county. With the additional partnership from Northview, as well as four more Choice Schools buildings, Kent ISD's MTSS partnerships are currently supporting over 52,000 students in 103 buildings!
