World Music Night with UT Ensembles

Gloria González-López Receives Multiple Honors
Dr. Gloria González-López has received the Kathleen S. Lowney Mentoring Award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems, and the Simon-Gagnon Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Sociological Association, Sexualities Section. Professor González-López also has been named C.B. Smith Sr. Centennial Chair in United States-Mexico Relations at UT Austin.
Mónica A. Jiménez Is Awarded Puerto Rican Writers Fellowship in Poetry
A new fellowship supporting Puerto Rican writers has been awarded to Dr. Mónica A. Jiménez, assistant professor of African and African Diaspora Studies at UT Austin. The Letras Boricuas Fellowship was created to identify, elevate, and amplify the voices of emerging and established Puerto Rican writers on the island and across the U.S. diaspora by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Flamboyan Foundation’s Arts Fund. Read more here.

Nathalia Hernández Ochoa Receives Dissertation Writing Fellowship for Spring 2022
Congratulations to doctoral candidate Nathalia Hernández Ochoa, who has received the UT Austin Dissertation Writing Fellowship for Spring 2022. Her project, titled “Curanderas: Maya Women Resisting Violence through Theater That Heals,” focuses on how Maya and Mestiza women are using theater and performance as a way to denounce violence in Guatemala.
