Gathering & Growing At The Salon

Hi there,

The last weeks and months, The Salon has been abuzz with activity. From our women-led networking opportunities and parenting groups where you can let your hair down (and vent) to a member's book debut and a personal story of a member’s experience transitioning, we’ve met new friends, enjoyed diverse perspectives, organized unique events, and welcomed more new members along the way.

None of this would be possible without the inspiring, creative, and brilliant women who have taken the time out of their busy lives to join us on this journey.

The Salon was brought to life as a place where anyone who identifies as a woman and those from all backgrounds and walks of life can come together to grow, connect, and learn. And that’s exactly what I’ve seen take shape within our studio walls and outside of it in virtual meet-ups and excursions.

Thank you to all of you who have shown up, shared a post, spread the word, and introduced a friend to our community. It’s because of you that we are able to continue to make The Salon everything we dreamed it would be — a safe, inviting, communal space for women to gather and grow.

See you at The Salon. 💛

Until next week,
—Meredith

Something was missing in Pittsburgh: A place for women to grow and be seen together. That's why The Salon was started. It was a reaction to the absence of a connecting piece: something that could tie together all of the beautiful, true, and brilliant things that women around Pittsburgh are doing.

Entrepreneurs, artists, academics, organizers, leaders, friends, family members, people — they're all welcome at The Salon. Our goal is to thrive through the creation of a diverse community.

We want to feel the kinetic energy of spontaneous creation in our space. We want to sit silent in a moment of collective learning. We want to grow in leaps and strides. Consider joining us!

There’s a new brunch spot taking over the old Cocoa Cafe space in Lawrenceville. 🥐 Introducing, The Nook, which will offer American-style breakfast and brunch dishes, including plant-based options, made with local ingredients whenever possible. 🍔

Atithi Studios, a three-story artist coworking community is making a home in Sharpsburg. 🎨 The community hub is slated to open in 2022 and will feature private room rentals, public classes, a community darkroom, and a podcast studio. 🎧

Women are carving out a space in the beer industry. 🍻Congratulations to Trace Brewing’s vocational brewer, Nina Santiago, for scoring a full-time brewing and cellaring position at Necromancer Brewing just north of Pittsburgh. 💪

Being zero-waste just got a whole lot easier thanks to The Refillery. 🙌The sustainable, woman-owned retail space in Squirrel Hill allows you to bring in or buy empty containers to reuse and refill with home essentials like lotion, hand soap, laundry detergent, and more.🧴

Ideas for unwinding this weekend...

📖 What we’re reading: Anything recommended by local book reviewer Jordan Alif. But this week, I’ll be diving into one of her October favorites: The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina, a literary fantasy about strange magic, family secrets, and heartache.

🎧 What we’re listening to: NPR’s podcast How I Built This: The Strategic Power of Inclusive Companies. Host Guy Raz interviews Cheryl Contee, the founder and CEO of Do Big Things, a woman-owned creative agency that partners with progressive campaigns, causes, and companies fighting for powerful, lasting change.

📼 What we’re watching: The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, a 2008 film based on Michael Chabon’s novel of the same name that chronicles the defining summer of a recent college graduate who hails from our city.
