Marriage Enrichment Evening

Spots Still Open!!!
Registration Welcome At-The-Door
Or Online Here

The church should be the place where marriage is the strongest, but again and again both statistics and personal experience reveal that Christian marriages have all of the same problems faced by the rest of the world. How can churches redeem marriages and remake them so that they transform individual souls and reflect the glory of God?

Join us for an evening of enrichment filled with dinner, dancing, and discussion with other couples on the topic of marriage sparked by short video presentations from Dan Allender's series "Intimate Marriage." We’ll be at the Inn at Amarante’s Sea Cliff (62 Cove St., New Haven) at 6pm. Feel free to extend this invitation to others.
Smokin' Theologians Veterans Day Special
Smokin’ Theologians Podcast Is Live: Search for Smokin’ Theologians on YouTube and Spotify, or find them directly at smokintheologians.com or cpcpodcasts.org.

Recorded at New Haven’s The Owl Shop, the Smokin’ Theologians Podcast is a long form conversation hosted by curious layman, Alex Gonzalez, and learned Theologian, Rev. Dr. Preston Graham, in which the two discuss plaguing theological questions and today's societal concerns, field live audience questions, and host a variety of colorful guests. Smokin’ Theologians is an answer to questions that don’t always get addressed. All are invited to attend the live recording every Thursday at 2pm at The Owl Shop in downtown New Haven (268 College St, New Haven, CT 06510).

The Hill Christmas Store Returns for the 10th Year - Return Gifts by 12/5
Please join us in sharing our tenth year of Christmas joy with some wonderful families from New Haven’s Hill community this year.  Just take an ornament from the Christmas tree in the CPC foyer, and return it with an unwrapped gift with a value of $15 or more for a child in the designated category (e.g., “Girl, 9-14”).  Recommended gifts include learning games, diverse dolls, basketballs, footballs, etc., with a more complete list of possibilities available at the foyer display. In the spirit of empowerment, your gift will in turn be bought at a very reduced price by families in the Hill for their children for Christmas.  Please return your gift to the foyer display area by Sunday, December 5 (the store event will be held on the 11th).

Are You Interested in Learning More about Membership at CPC?
We have a membership joining coming up on December 12th and would love to begin the conversation if you’ve been interested in learning more about joining the church. The process includes familiarizing yourself with our Membership Seminar (available at cpcpodcasts.org), meeting with a pastor, and then with several of our shepherd leaders. Contact Annie to get started. There will also be a time for potential members to interact socially with current members, shepherd leaders, and pastors on 12/3 at our “New Member Social”.

Did You Miss the Opportunity to Mentor with BOH?
Bridges of Hope is still looking for volunteers to serve as mentors for the 2021-22 school year.  Volunteers should be college-age or older, be fully vaccinated, and have a heart for kids from low-income families.  The two most urgent needs are for mentors Thursday night, and specifically for a male mentor on Tuesday night. Both nights are from 5-7pm at Ross-Woodward School. Mentors are assigned one student to work with all year. Duties include helping with homework, discussing a brief devotional, participating in recreational activities, and building a relationship of trust.  Go to bridgesnewhaven.org and click on the link to fill out an initial application or email the director Kathy Jennings with any questions.

  • Adult Sunday Studies at 9:30am:
    • The Bible Project: A Journey Through the Bible -- Book by Book | Have you ever tried to read the Bible and get lost in the weeds? Try to read from cover to cover and don’t make it past Exodus? Ever wonder what the main points of each book are about? Join us Sunday Mornings as we discuss a different book of the Bible each week in order. In order to become biblically literate and to fall more in love with God and His Word, we have to understand the bigger picture of God’s redemption. We’ll be using the popular and easily digested “Bible Project” videos each week to kick off our discussions. The Psalmist exclaims, “I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil” (Ps. 119:162). Let’s mine the treasures together! 9:30am in the Fellowship Hall. Click here for the course webpage.
    • Just Prayer | Not “just” prayer, or prayer about justice, but prayer alone! Inspired by our church-wide retreat, we want to be a church that depends on God and works for results that only God can provide, as opposed to ones that we can manufacture. So let’s do this together - no program, no agenda, just a commitment to pray kingdom prayers together according to the command of Christ, for the glory of Christ, and the building up of His Church! 9:30am in the Parlor.
  • Women’s Discipleship Group: In Romans, Paul expresses a longing to be together “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. “ Consider joining us on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (7-8:30 pm) as we encourage, support and challenge one another in a small group setting.  We are using the book A Place to Belong by Megan Hill.  Please join us via Zoom (meeting #812 2180 7643) as we explore the beauty of the church and how we can delight in the “loveliness of Christ’s gathered people.” Contact Lisa or Diane.
  • Men’s Discipleship Group: Every 1st and 3rd Thursday evening at 6:30pm we gather for a time of fellowship and discussion of an article. Emails are sent out every Monday with info on time, location, and a link to the article. If you are interested in joining (and are not on the men’s email list), contact Jerry.

Contact Meg or Patty.

  • Young at Heart 60 Somethings Group: This group meets at 10:30am on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the Fellowship Hall. We are using the book “Trusting God.” If you are interested contact Alan or Stacy.

Tuesday Night Pastoral Counseling Available 7pm-9pm: Would you like to speak one-on-one with a CPC pastor? We desire to connect the truths of scripture to the realities of life. Whether you are going through suffering or just need wisdom, the pastoral staff is dedicated to being available to meet. We recognize that our work hours are not always convenient for others. If you are interested in scheduling a pastoral consultation, the pastoral staff is available by appointment Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. (or another time as determined by appointment).  Interested persons may sign-up confidentially here.

Wednesday Night Fellowship Meal at 7pm: Join us for a light meal before Compline in the Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday Night Compline at 8pm (In-Person and Livestream): Beginning centuries ago, monastic communities gathered in the evening to “complete” the day by observing a worship service that weaves together songs, prayers, Scriptural reflections, and Communion. In that spirit, we hope to enter God’s presence with others from around our city to experience Compline. Each night we will celebrate the central Christian feast of the Lord’s Table. All are welcome to join us in the middle of the week as we take refuge in the riches of God’s grace in Christ. Compline meets Wednesday at 8:00pm during the academic year (in-person or online from 9/22/21 - 12/8/21 (except Thanksgiving week on 11/24/21) and 1/19/22 - 4/6/22.
