“One of the components that stood out was the cultural inclusion/cultural sensitivity portion of the conference. Having cultural competency and cultural inclusion training for agencies is ideal in servicing diverse populations within our community.”
“Another component was the self-care and relaxation portion of the conference where participants spent time doing self-care and relaxation techniques that they can incorporate into their busy schedule and reflect on focusing on their health first before serving others.”

2022 Professional Development and CAP Activities
What's on people’s minds for 2022?
Partners brainstormed ideas for the coming year in breakout groups.
Professional Development Topics
- Cultural competency/inclusion, self-care and sharing lived experience for both providers and families are top priorities.
- There is interest in hosting an "Open Space" event, first for partners and then for the wider community. In Open Space meetings, participants create and manage their own agenda of parallel working sessions around a central theme of strategic importance. David Litman, Director Programs and Training at Hale Pono Youth Shelter, recently coordinated an Open Space event and is willing to share his experience and templates. Mahalo David!
CAP April Events
- The Ho’oikaika Partnership is working with HCAN and other statewide partners to host activities for child abuse prevention month in April.
- Friends of the Children Justice Center will coordinate the mayor’s proclamation in collaboration with partners.
- Our Community Engagement committee is coordinating activities and also working on a video project to reduce the stigma associated with seeking help.
- Partners are interested in hosting family and youth strengthening activities and recommended more publicity about events.
