We are pleased to invite you to Partner South East Asia: Arts and Culture Matters, which will take place online from 22-25 November 2021, starting at 9am UK time each day.

This is the first virtual event of its kind between the UK and South East Asia. It is unique as it is not just a series of talks, but an important platform for meeting international collaborators and partners. Participants can expect:

 Over 50 inspiring speakers from the UK and South East Asia 
 Dynamic discussions
➤ Six dedicated country briefing sessions
➤ Artistic showcasing
 Networking events with some of the world’s leading thinkers and artists.

Through these activities, attendees will be able to gain new insights, top trends and opportunities for new work in the arts, culture and creative economy sector. The event is FREE and will use the Hopin platform to stream the sessions and videos, as well as allow for delegates to chat, connect and network.

WHAT TO EXPECT...

First Virtual Event Of Its Kind Between UK & SEA

The four-day activity from British Council aims to showcase how the UK and South East Asian countries can create new collaborations and strengthen cultural relations. It aims to generate UK sector attention for South East Asia and raise awareness on South East Asia’s significance to the UK. The event will feature country briefings on Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand.

50+ SPEAKERS...

Eleena Jamil was born in Penang, Malaysia and currently lives in Kuala Lumpur. She is a Professional Member of PAM and registered with Malaysian Architects Board. She is also a Professional Member and Chartered Architect of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) London UK and registered with Architects Registration Board UK. 
Sara Pepper is Director of Creative Economy at Cardiff University. She currently has two main leadership roles as Director of Creative Cardiff and COO of Clwstwr. Her role is to provide leadership and strategic direction to these initiatives and to work with a wide variety of stakeholders including academic, industry and government partners.
 
Tarek Virani is Associate Professor of Creative Industries at the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education at UWE Bristol. Previously he was Deputy Director of Network: Queen Mary University of London’s Centre for the Creative and Cultural Economy. Tarek has done work for a number of local, national and international organisations including research institutions, governments and other stakeholders.
 
Angela Chan is Head of Inclusion and doctoral researcher at StoryFutures at Royal Holloway University. She has worked across the UK television industry for over twenty years. Most recently she was Head of Creative Diversity for C4 and has held similar roles at the BBC and Pact. She currently sits on the British Council’s Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Group and Natwest’s Ethnicity Board.

A FAST GROWING DIGITAL ECONOMY...

The arts and culture sector in South East Asia is rich and diverse. The region is home to a fast-growing population that is young and digitally savvy. The median age is 30 and the digital economy in South East Asia has expanded threefold between 2015-2019 and represents 7 percent of the regions US$2.8 trillion GDP. This presents tremendous opportunities for collaboration in the arts and creative industries in terms of influencing policy, international market development and knowledge exchange.
