Writing person-centered outcomes and plans doesn't have to be intimidating or difficult, let us show you the basics.

About this event
Our training, From Discovery Skills to Person Centered Outcomes was developed to support people who write person-centered plans by teaching them to develop outcomes that support interest-based community engagement. Participants will learn to write outcomes and action plans that support positive change for all people, and especially for people who have historically been underestimated due to the presence of an intellectual/developmental disability. The training focuses on several information gathering techniques, including the Discovery Skills developed by The Learning Community for Person Centered Practices, and teaches you how to use the information gathered from those techniques to write plans that celebrate people and support them to achieve their dreams.

Direct Support Workforce and COVID-19 Survey: Providing Support During the COVID-19 Pandemic

In 2013, there were about 880,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) DSP positions dedicated to providing assistance to 1.4 million people. Given that approximately 30% of the DSP workforce is part-time, and estimating that 2.5 part-time workers are needed to fill one full-time equivalency, there were an estimated 1.3 million DSPs supporting individuals with IDD. In order to sustain services at the current levels, given current turnover rates, 574,200 new DSPs need to be hired into the workforce every year. To provide services to the approximately 200,000 people with IDD on waiting lists, an additional 167,001 new DSPs would need to be hired. Given the high growth and demand in need, the persistent turnover rates, and a strong U.S. economy, the number of new DSPs that will need to enter the workforce is expected to grow each year between now and 2030. By Valerie J. Bradley, Dorothy Hiersteiner, Tawara D. Goode, Alexandra Bonardi, Stephanie Giordano, Mary Lou Bourne, and Laura Vegas

In 2020, the confluence of the COVID 19 pandemic and the events surrounding the death of George Floyd exposed indisputable disparities and injustice experienced by racial and ethnic groups in the United States. Health disparities were glaringly apparent in the higher mortality and morbidity rates among Black citizensa who contracted the novel coronavirus. Demonstrations against racial injustice grew over the summer in response to George Floyd’s murder and other Black men and women who died at thehands of police. Following the dramatic events of the summer of 2020, many human service organizations across the country began to take a deeper look at inequities that have produced disparities in areas such as housing, income, employment, and nutrition. To be more precise, in this data brief, we distinguish between disparities or differences.
