Have you ever had the experience of too many things, in too close proximity, that leave you feeling quiet and tender, with an urge to take up life in a small remote cabin somewhere distant?

No? Well, I could tell you all about how uncomfortable it is. Or I could tell you how helpful it is to have access to these qualities of mind and heart that remind me that this will pass. The worldly winds of change blow relentlessly: pleasure and pain, praise and blame, gain and loss, success and failure... always one or another. How do we manage in the face of these conditions of what we like/long for and what we very much want to avoid, yet inevitably arise?

It's not magic, but it does take some of the sting out. When I remember that life is stressful AND change is always happening, for all of us, all the time, I can remember to have faith that it's not going to stay like this... even if I don't know precisely when this will settle. This is the fruit of practice. We befriend our experience as the way it is right now... because resistance is futile, it just adds the second arrow and compounds our pain.

So, perhaps you would like to come and practice, practice being in the body, settling into the mind-heart, resting in awareness of the present moment. These Mindful Mondays are offered to graduates as an invitation to hear a familiar voice, familiar guidance, and maybe recall or give voice to an intention, or a question, or perhaps simply be in community with like-minded folds.

Third Monday, 6-7:30, whether a regular or even if you've never been, you are warmly invited to come, via Zoom.

I hope to see you Monday. And if not, please know that I send you Metta and hope you're taking good care of your tender heart. Maybe next month?

warmly, Ruth
