Dear Murujuga/FARA supporters,

Things have really been hotting up in the last few weeks in the Say No to Scarborough Gas campaign run by 350.org

Fortnightly Wednesdays at Woodside/BHP/Perdaman/NAB have put the information out on the streets and attracted good social media coverage – and the latest initiative is beaming anti-pollution messages on Woodside’s building at night – see https://www.facebook.com/104730455065221/posts/216705510534381/?d=n

Action groups are also targeting local businesses to display material and add their logos to the website as a gesture of their support.
I urge you to look at their website https://saynotoscarborough.com.au/, watch the video, inform yourself and decide how you can personally take action to persuade investors and shareholders that Woodside’s final investment decision in early December is neither economically nor legally advisable given its glaring lack of the necessary environmental and heritage approvals – see CCWA’s report

You might like to read the groundbreaking paper by Ben Smith, John Black & other international scientists confirming that acid rain from Burrup industry is destroying the rock art (contrary to claims by Yara Pilbara consultants Warren Fish & Ian McLeod)  https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-29/fears-murujuga-pilbara-rock-art-at-risk-from-industry-pollution/100572050

And there is also the Climate Analytics report delivered by Prof Bill Hare at COP 26 last week on the impact of LNG on global climate, mentioning Scarborough gas…

But something that you can do right now is email Perdaman’s CEO Vikas Rambal saying that the Burrup peninsula is the very worst place for his proposed polluting Urea plant, which will in turn be dependent on the very Scarborough gas we don’t want!
Some points to mention – building the plant will involve moving 5 pieces of significant rock art; Aboriginal people we speak to are opposed to it, despite Rambal’s proclaimed support from MAC; under the BMIEA agreement MAC is actually gagged from objecting to industrial development, so there is no prior and informed consent for this highly destructive project to go ahead; it will add to already huge acid rain deposits on the Burrup and eat away at Murujuga’s rock art (see paper above); regardless of extra expense, it should be located on the Maitland Industrial Estate – or why not go to Queensland and take over the already established but failing Urea plant there?
The email addresses (use both) are vikas.rambal@perdaman.com.au and jody.ross@perdaman.com.au

Thanks again for all your support – and keep up with what we’re doing on our website and FB page – things are finally coming together and there’s definitely a change in the air, both locally and globally!

Yours sincerely,
Judith Hugo & Dr Stephen Bennetts
