Early Free Shipping

The good thing about shopping local is that local producers are not as affected by the supply chain issues of those large big box folks! (#buylocal) And we ship right away—usually same day or next business day.  However, since the post office is warning about slow deliveries this season, we have decided to start our free holiday shipping campaign a little early.  So starting today, you can receive free shipping on all orders over $60 now through Christmas.  (#weloveourcustomers) Just enter FREESHIPPING as a discount code at checkout.  But please take advantage and get your orders in early so that we can avoid all those holiday bottlenecks.

Centralia Holiday Market is Back

The last chance this year to sample all the emu oil goodies and stock up for Christmas

We are usually beat by the end of the year with all busy-ness of farming all year and we have seldom ventured out for holiday markets. (#cozyfireplaceiscalling) But this year we are very excited to be joining the Centralia Holiday Market for their second season!!!  Open Friday through Sunday, Thanksgiving through Christmas.  There will be lots of vendors with tons of locally made gifts and crafts to find that special one of a kind gift for those on Santa’s nice list.  And as you know emu oil (or our amazing nighttime face serum) is just the perfect thing for Mrs. Claus.

Farm Happenings...enough with the rain!

We have lived in Adna, Washington for 12 years now and Washington State for much longer, so you would think we would be used to the fall deluge.  (#pineappleexpress) We love the fall and the smell of damp leaves and grass (one of us is from Scotland for goodness sake).  But each year and especially this year it just seems like the rain will never stop.  Luckily the chicks are tucked away in the barn pen, the garden is harvested, all the tools are put away, firewood is cut and stacked (mostly) and the trenches are ready to divert all the rainwater from the emu pens (mostly).  We are ready to watch the coming of winter, and all that rain, from our cozy spot in front of the fireplace.  At least for a bit… then it is on to incubating eggs and preparing products for next year, and repairing the tractor that gave up the ghost this summer… it’s always something.
Emily’s Corner

(A Younger Perspective on Emu Farming…)

My name is Emily Grace.  I help my family with a lot on the farm, like collecting emu eggs, giving the birds water to drink, and catching chicks to help move them when needed.  These are some examples of what I do on the farm.  This will be my first addition to the newsletter that we send out.  Mom has been advocating that I do my own little article in the newsletter for a couple of years now.  So here goes…

I would like to tell you what I have been doing.  Fall is our quiet time of the year because we don’t have small chicks on the ground.  They have grown up to be 4 feet tall in about 8-10 months.  We are not collecting eggs yet, but it is getting close so I check the pens every day.  The birds will lay their eggs anywhere in the pen and cover it with a few strands of hay and think that it is hidden well.  I laugh when I am collecting eggs and see this, because it is so funny.

The markets have slowed down since the summer months. I like to wander around at the markets, meet new people, and greet vendors, so I will miss that til next year.  We have also been very busy with harvesting in the garden at the beginning of fall.  We have lots of peas and carrots and beans in the freezer and pumpkins as well!!

I love hanging out with my mom—baking bread, going on walks, reading, and doing puzzles—when I am not helping with the emus.  Goodbye for now until the next newsletter comes out.
