'Call to action' request

Dear WPFC Members,

I trust you have all been well.

This communication is quite last minute, so I thank you for your understanding of this 'call to action' request before 5:00 PM tomorrow - Monday 15 November 2021

Our Committee have been recommended by Gordon Soccer Club and the NSFA to write a letter of support relating to 4 Pennant Avenue, Gordon to request that this site be converted into a recreational area for the community including at least one football pitch. The current proposal before Council is to rezone the site to cater for residential dwellings.

We request that yourselves, as our members, make your own email submission to Council requesting that the site (formerly Gordon Bowling Club) be converted into a recreational space including football fields.

We believe that this will help to increase the supply and condition of our grounds and cater for the significant expected growth in our population and player numbers. Your letter need not be long - a couple of sentences is sufficient.

Please feel free use any of the material from our letter sent to the Council, further below, if you wish.

Link to Ku-ring-gai Council Website with details of the proposal and how to provide feedback: https://tinyurl.com/4-Pennant-Avenue-Gordon

Feedback: Send an email to kmc@kmc.nsw.gov.au with reference number S13471 in the subject, as well as your contact details including your address.

Thank you for your support.

Regards,
Kevin Johnson
President West Pymble Football Club

RE: 4 PENNANT AVENUE GORDON (GORDON BOWLING CLUB)

We write to you to propose that the site of 4 Pennant Avenue - formerly Gordon Bowling Club - be developed into a park that can accommodate recreational and sporting events including a football field.

We do not agree with the proposal to rezone the site into low-density residential dwellings. We already have a lack of adequate recreational and sporting facilities in Ku-ring-gai, particularly for the playing of football. Once the site is developed, its status won’t be able to be changed and the opportunity to continue its use as a recreational facility for the community will be lost forever.

As you may be aware, due to growing population projects in our area NSROC have forecast that current supply of sports grounds will need to increase by 26% by 2026 and by 40% by 2036 to meet demand driven by population growth. The former Gordon Bowling Club site provides a unique opportunity for a new sporting field to satisfy the forecast increased demand for sporting grounds. This issue is especially acute in football where nearly 8,000 of the Northern Suburbs Football Association’s 18,000+ registered players reside.

As a local community club, West Pymble Football Club has nearly 1,000 registered players and is part of the Northern Suburbs Football Association whose 18,143 players have increased by 18% over the past decade. Increases in participation levels from All Age football, Over 35s and particularly Women’s football is making access to grounds more difficult. We would expect that members from Gordon Soccer Club and neighbouring clubs would enjoy the use of this new facility, as well as our local community in Gordon.

Our club and neighbouring clubs continue to face an increasing challenge to access facilities for our members during the winter season as well as the off-season where accessing grounds for summer football and pre-season training and trials has become particularly difficult. Improving the number of grounds available to play football is crucial to the future of our club and our members to ensure that we have adequate facilities to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of playing football.
