Welcome to this week's issue of The Birthday Workbook!
This week, we read a commentary by Phei Sunn, who relishes in ultra-endurance adventures around the world. She has been running and climbing for more than 10 years, and at the time of writing, was a Principal Consultant with the Institute of Leadership and Organisation Development, Civil Service College (CSC).
Before you read the article, watch the following video on Jeremy Tong's experience of climbing Mount Everest and answer these questions:
- List three complications that a "human traffic jam" would pose for a mountaineer's ascent towards Mount Everest.
- What were the visible scars that Jeremy bore during his interview with Channel News Asia?
- What was your greatest learning takeaway from the video?

Consider the following questions:
- Phei Sunn explains that she likes the name "Team Chilli Padi" and has used it "during team races". List at least two reasons from the article that suggests her liking for this name.
- In your opinion, why was the evacuation of a corpse "an instantly sobering moment" for Phei Sunn during her climb in Xingiang, China?
- "In the mountains, there is no place for egos or conquests - nature easily puts us all in our place." To what extent would you agree that Phei Sunn exemplifies this claim in her article?
- In your opinion, what are the "higher uncharted terrain" that Singapore would be ascending in the next five to ten years and how can we better prepare ourselves to make this ascent?
- Phei Sunn muses that "there is always something new to learn about ourselves or from others and the surroundings" as we "journey towards our literal and figurative summits". What metaphorical mountains have you ascended during the last few months and what have you learnt about yourself in the process?
