Kia ora Bradford Whānau,

There is SO much to share with you this week!   I have good news and bad news, but fingers crossed it all turns out well in the end.  In our household we always go with the bad news first so we can end on a high note so here goes...  

PRIZEGIVING
Unfortunately, the KVC end of year Prizegiving is unable to proceed. We are not allowed more than 100 people attending, must socially distance everyone and have also been advised by the Secretary of Education to cancel.  To say the staff are disappointed is an under-statement - it is not only our tradition to celebrate together and farewell the Year 6s, but we are also well and truly overdue for a catch-up with our community whānau!

We have brainstormed and decided to host a much smaller send off for the Year 6s here at school. To keep within the numbers mandate and be able to socially distance, two adult invitations per Year 6 child will be allocated for a pot-luck dinner on the same night as the prizegiving was to be held. We're very sorry but this does need to be an exclusive Year 6 evening only in order for this event to be able to go ahead.  Further details will be shared with those families soon.  

An in-school prizegiving assembly for the remaining year groups will be held with caregivers of the Whetu Marama Award recipients invited to attend.  We really wish we could have you all here with us, but unfortunately we are simply not allowed that either. There will be photos galore posted to class pages afterwards we promise. 

NEW STAFF MEMBER
It is with delight that we welcome Mrs Angela Griffiths to our teaching staff for 2022. Many of you will have met Ange as she taught in Room 1 a couple of years ago and in Room 6 this year.  She is super excited to be joining the Bradford Team and will come in for the transition activity to meet her new class in the last week. 
In other exciting news, Miss McKillop is going to teach up a level next year (but from her R4 classroom) and Mrs Griffiths will teach the younger ones in Room 5.  Whilst we know this means the usual class numbers are out of sequence (1, 2, 5, 4, 6) it saves moving all the resources including Zolo's well set up space in the R4 wet area.  Class placements will be shared with whānau later in the term.

Book Fair Week has arrived and our foyer is bursting with books! 

The book fair will be open in the foyer every day this week between the hours of 8.30am – 8.55am and 3.00pm – 3.30pm.
 
Our Fish and Chip night is on this Wednesday 17th November from 5.30 – 6.30pm.  You are invited to bring along your dinner and have a look at the books while the teachers entertain the kids with some stories from the book fair.
 
We do ask that you follow Level 2 guidelines as follows:
 
  • Wear a mask
  • Sign in using the Covid app and write your name on the tracing sheet.
  • Hand sanitise on entry
  • Keep a 2m distance between your bubble and others where possible.  This may be difficult in the small space of the foyer so we may ask the families stagger their entry  – please follow teacher instructions.
Book Character Dress Up Day is on Friday.
 
Last week Saanvi shared a book with her class in the Library about Diwali and how her family celebrates this special occasion.   She also shared some of her delicious baked sweets with the staff.
 
LIBRARY STOCKTAKE
Mrs Burrows is starting the Library stocktake next week so it is really important that ALL library books are returned to school this week please. This not only helps make it easier for Mrs Burrows, but also saves whānau being invoiced unnecessarily for missing books.   Thank you for your support. 

 
Do you recognise any of this lost property?  Named items have been returned to their owners, but we still have these items unaccounted for and would like them to make their way home please.
Whilst we hope it will never happen to us, it is really important to be prepared for any civil emergency. Please do take the time at home to discuss / review your plans with your whānau should disaster strike.  Below you will find the second challenge in a weekly showcased series that you might like to consider undertaking as a family.  
Bradford's Board of Trustees is looking for whānau of our tamariki who are interested in being a part of our School Board.

This is a great way to be involved in the running of the school and have a greater understanding of the work that goes on behind the white board.

GREAT NEWS! 

Bradford School's Enrolment Zone officially ceased at the end of last term.  What this means is that we can return to accepting student's from beyond the Bradford boundary that may like to join our special place. In the past, it has been really heartbreaking having to turn away prospective families who were not in Zone. 

If you know of families who are interested in attending Bradford School we encourage you to please let them know we are now accepting students across all year levels for 2022.  Equally if you have a younger child who you are intending to enrol, we ask that you please let Sonja know so we can put them on our list.  This forward planning assists greatly in our staffing and classroom configurations to ensure we deliver the best adult to student ratios we can for our tamariki.  
DYSLEXIA PARENT INFORMATION EVENING 
 
Whānau are warmly invited to our Dyslexia Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 24th November at 6:45pm.  Staff will be sharing what dyslexia is (and isn't), how it may affect children, how and when we tend to identify it, strengths of the dyslexic mind and supports available both at school and in the home.  We would appreciate it if you could please let your child's teacher know if you are intending to attend so we can safely calculate seating. There is also a $50 Grocery voucher spot prize available on the night for one lucky attendee.

Chat bus is at school weekly if you would like your child to attend.   Sue Evans,  continues as our Chatbus Registered Counsellor for Term 4 on Tuesdays and Fridays.
