This past Wednesday (November 10th), I had the great pleasure of attending the formal installation and swearing in of our Police Chief, Dave Norris (far right in the picture below). Also being recognized were dispatchers, newly sworn police officers and those on the force being promoted. Many of the honorees had their families in attendance, and it was sweet seeing how proud the officers' children were of their parents.
As a member of the City Council Reimagining Public Safety Subcommittee, I have had the opportunity to meet regularly with Chief Norris to discuss many issues - from traffic safety to how to build trust between the police department and the community at large. I look forward to many more moments like the one on Wednesday in which those who live and work in Menlo Park have a chance to interact positively with those who serve Menlo Park day-to-day. Through getting to know one another as people, we can work together to create a brighter future.
