Sheila Binns, author of "The Aesthetics of Utopia", and our very own James Roberts will introduce us to four of West Yorkshire’s model villages, Akroydon, Copley, West Park and Ripley Ville.

And we’ll be working together to address the question:
What can we learn from comparing and contrasting these with Saltaire?

In order to be Covid-safe, we’ll be masked in the wide open spaces of the Saltaire Methodist Church. Please use the church's front entrance on the main road.

The Club acknowledges the contribution to this meeting of Bob Walker, the historian of Ripley Ville, and his wonderful blog, re-discovering Ripley Ville https://rediscoveringripleyville.wordpress.com/

The evening will conclude with the Club’s AGM

The papers for the AGM are available from the Club website:

If you cannot access a copy by these methods, please contact the Chair at historyclub@saltairevillage.info to obtain a hard copy.

THE CLUB DOESN’T RUN ITSELF!

Yes: we need members who will put in a shift during 2022.

And we mean it. We need a new chair, a Club secretary, and a treasurer for a start.

This December’s AGM is the time to step up.

Would you like to help (even in a small way) but need to know more? Give Les the chair a call NOW on 01274 590537. Or you can email him at historyclub@saltairevillage.info

Map of Saltaire
Among the most valuable sources of historical information are maps.

And at the Club’s March meeting on the 3rd at 7pm we’ll be knee deep in them.
Map of Kirkgate, Shipley
Three of the very best experts on local maps will be with us – to let us into their cartographic historical discoveries and to show off a selection of their favourites. And the Saltaire Collection will add theirs too.

Put the date in your diary now!
