The 100 Peaks Challenge
In 1991, during its centennial celebrations, the New Zealand Alpine Club put out a challenge to mountaineers to climb 100 designated peaks in New Zealand. On February 21, 2021, when Don French stepped upon the summit of Mt Unicorn [2560 metres] on the Strauchon Glacier, he completed his thirty-year mission to climb all 100 peaks. He was the first to do so.
