ACUNS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Apply to Host the ACUNS-UN Annual Workshop

ACUNS is seeking a partner university or research institution to host the 2022 ACUNS-UN Annual Workshop. The workshop is developed in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Human Resources (UNOHR), bringing together early career scholars and UN staff to engage in a dialogue on a topic that defines their work. The workshop provides an opportunity for scholars to share their research findings with practitioners and for practitioners to consider the implications of their work in the context of academic scholarship. The deadline to submit a proposal is 1 December 2021. Further details regarding the workshop and the call for host proposals can be found on the 2022 Annual Workshop webpage.

Renew ACUNS Membership

Thank you to all members and institutions who have renewed their memberships or joined ACUNS for the first time. As part of its transition into an independent nonprofit organization, ACUNS launched a new website and logo in February 2021. As a result, all past and new members must complete a registration form and create a new (private) profile. The (public) Expert Directory will be transferred to the new website soon. Submit to Global Governance

Global Governance: A Review of Multilateralism and International Organizations is the official, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal of ACUNS. It is published quarterly by Brill and showcases the expertise of leading scholars and practitioners. The journal editorial team is currently accepting manuscript submissions for original research articles, as well as shorter, op-ed style commentaries from leading figures for the journal's "Global Forum." For more information click here: Global Governance.

COP26: Its Implications for the Future

Description: The ACUNS Tokyo Liaison Office, in partnership with the Global Peacebuilding Association of Japan (GPAJ) and the Kyoto Peacebuilding Center, has organized a panel discussion regarding the outcomes of the COP26 climate conference. The keynote presentation will be made by ACUNS Vice President, Dr. Franz Baumann, followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Taikan Oki, former Senior Vice Rector of the United Nations University, and Dr. S.M. Connect with the GGIN

ACUNS, the Stimson Center, Plataforma CIPÓ, and Leiden University launched the Global Governance Innovation Network (GGIN) at the June 2021 ACUNS Annual Meeting. The GGIN brings world-class scholarship together with international policy-making to address fundamental global governance challenges, threats, and opportunities. Its mission is to develop institutional, policy, legal, and normative improvements in the international global governance architecture. Governing our Climate Future

The Global Governance Innovation Network (GGIN) co-sponsored with the Global Challenges Foundation, Exponential Roadmap, and Stimson Center a "COP26 Networking Breakfast: Governing Our Climate Future" on 6 November 2021 in Glasgow. Given the gravity of the climate crisis, strong global climate and environmental governance is urgently needed. The Climate Governance Commission's new Interim Report, Governing Our Climate Future, explores global governance proposals to address the climate crisis. Featured speakers included Maja Groff (Convener of the Climate Governance Commission, Global Challenges Foundation), Prince Zeid Al-Hussain (The Elders/International Peace Institute), and Johan Rockstrom (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research). Multilateralism in Action

Celebrating the United Nations' 76 anniversary, Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) launched a new blog called Multilateralism in Action (MiA). The blog provides a platform for cutting-edge discussions on international organizations and global governance. Leading experts in both practice and research provide insights into the determinants, modalities, and outcomes of multilateralism at the global, regional, national, and local levels. Human Rights Council: 11 Vacancies

The UN Human Rights Council is seeking applications for 11 vacancies. These vacancies include three members of the Expert Mechanisms on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, seven independent expert positions on human rights, and one human rights expert from Latin America and the Caribbean for the Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries. The deadlines to apply are 25 November 2021 or 7 December 2021. For more information click here.

Town Hall with the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

The President of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, will share his priorities and perspectives for the 76th Session and civil society engagement during the Civil Society Town Hall Meeting jointly organized with the Civil Society Unit of the UN Department of Global Communications.
