Welcome to Secret Breakfast

An exclusive newsletter, the best place to start your day finding something ephemeral and joyful like a bubble gum balloon (and tons of Thanksgiving ideas)
Hi there!

If you're American, you're probably shopping for Thanksgiving. Or maybe you've already have had enough of that word. Bad news: today's recipes are all about Thanksgiving (Nov 25, btw).

The good news is: don't discard them; if you get them one by one, you get a blueprint of single meal ideas perfect for many autumn days.

One mistake we often make is wanting it all, all at one time. Instead, we can have something meaningful every single day, if we just play it right.

That should be something to be thankful for. Something ephemeral and joyful like a pink bubble gum balloon.

I believe that one of the most dignified ways we are capable of - to assert the reassert our dignity in the face of poverty and war's fears and pains - is to nourish ourselves with all possible skill, delicacy, and ever increasing enjoyment.

"For many years, historians believed that Roman society was divided into elites dining with excessive gluttony, while teeming millions of ordinary Romans subsisted on an enforced vegetarian diet. This polarized image has been replaced, largely because of the kind of evidence we see in Pompeii, with a far more complex picture".
Rachel Cooke / The Guardian
"The fashion for massed ranks of gleaming cupboards is rapidly diminishing – one symptom of which is a similar reduction in our hunger to own kitchen kit". What?

Trivia answer: Dairy is the biggest loser, a glass of it is made by 0.63 kg of emissions, consumes 1.79 square meters of land, and 126.6 liters of water. Almond has the lowest emissions (0.14), but it consumes water (74.3); oat and soy look much more sustainable.
