Welcome to The Honors College at Perimeter Update!
In this email, you will find information about:

End of Semester Warm-Up at Dunwoody

Professor Neeley Gossett will be hosting an End of Semester Warm-Up at the Dunwoody campus. A great chance to sip some hot chocolate, grab some Honors swag, and enjoy the Honors community. The event will be this Wednesday, November 17 from 10:30 AM to 12 PM (or until supplies run out) in NB 1000. See you there!

Claw Club Home Game Scholarship

Cheer on your favorite GSU Panthers at the next home football game for a chance to win big!

To be eligible for the drawing, students must have a game day ticket, attend the game, and be a member of the Claw Club. Athletics will send out a text identifying the winning students during the game and instructions on where they need to go to claim their award. Any awards not claimed during the game will be forfeited and awarded at the next home game.

The Claw Club is a student organization that can be joined by any student who wants to support the Panthers in their athletic ventures. The Claw Club members gain access to exclusive events and rewards as well as a t-shirt upon signing up!

Spring Registration

Spring 2022 is fast approaching! Below are a few reminders about registration:
  • You have an honors advisor assigned to you at your campus! They are the best, so don't be afraid to check here to see who you can schedule an advising appointment with, if needed.
  • The Spring 2022 full semester calendar can be found here
  • Spring 2022 honors courses can be found here, but PAWS will have the most updated listings.
_____________________________________________________

Thank you to all of the students who joined us for one of our Plan Ahead for Spring Success events around campus! We hope it inspired a little organization, course registration, and honors community.

We strongly encourage honors students to register for spring as soon as possible. Students have a better chance of securing their needed classes, preferred instructors, and optimal times the earlier they register.

We have some great courses to look forward to in the spring, including a cool opportunity for a cluster course at the Clarkston campus. The next section has more details on that class.
Spring 2022 Honors Courses

Spring Course Cluster at Clarkston

“What does it mean to be an American? And whose story is it anyway?” This is what the inaugural honors course cluster instructed by Dr. Rhiannon Evangelista and Prof. Nancy Gilbert hope to have their students answer this spring.

Featuring Honors HIST 2110 with Dr. Rhiannon Evangelista and Honors ENGL 2130 with Prof. Nancy Gilbert in a combined format, these faculty have designed the courses to cover complementary time periods and thematic content, all while students find their own place in the ongoing American narrative.

Students will earn 6 Honors credit hours of the 12 needed for the Honors Scholar designation upon graduation (and for seamless transition to the Honors College downtown).

If you have not taken your required HIST 2110 course and have yet to finish your Area C humanities requirement, this is a great opportunity to do both!
The CRN for the HIST 2110 course is 18194; the CRN for the ENGL 2130 course is 22455. Read more about the courses below.

Fall 2021 Commencement

If you are graduating this semester, please take the time to fill out this form and let us know where you would like to pick up your honors cord and certificate, if eligible. An Honors College representative will also be at the ceremony for students to pick up their cords there.

Remember, a cord from the Honors College is different than graduating with honors. Students who have completed at least one honors class with a grade of C or better and are in good standing (have a GPA of 3.3 or better) qualify to receive an Honors College cord.

If your GPA is above 3.5, you should receive an additional gold cord from Perimeter College signifying that you graduated with honors, regardless of whether or not you have taken an honors class.

More information about commencement can be found here. Questions about cords or certificates can be emailed to perimeterhonors@gsu.edu.

Research Opportunities

Looking for a research opportunity to fulfill the requirement of the Honors Research Scholar?

Learn more about the Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference (GSURC) and how to become a presenter: https://gsurc.honors.gsu.edu/

Here are the requirements for submitting a manuscript to Discovery Journalhttps://scholarworks.gsu.edu/discovery/about.html

Other options: Talk with faculty and department chairs in your major discipline about opportunities to present at a professional or student-oriented research conference. There are many, many opportunities, and costs for students to participate can be very low -- and perhaps the departments even have funding for student participation. For this academic year, we will count virtual presentations at official academic conferences toward this recognition.
