The bus stand in South Grove will close.  More details here and at www.highgatesociety.com including the Society's views on the changes and details of how to comment. The consultation is open till January 9th.
Camden Council confirms Millfield Lane one-way system
Following consultation on the temporary one-way northbound system on Millfield Lane, Camden has decided to make it permanent.

The Highgate Society's proposal to reverse the direction of travel to minimise congestion at the Millfield Lane/Merton Lane/Fitzroy Park junction was not considered as it was not included in the options in the consultation. Camden have accepted that the consultation was flawed as there was no option included for a one-way system in the reverse direction, and have said they will "continue to monitor and assess the scheme which could include further public consultation”.

Interested to volunteer with the Highgate Society?

We are always keen to hear from members who would like to become more actively involved. Some specific needs are highlighted below but if you’re interested helping with something else that we do, please get in touch either by coming to our Saturday Coffee morning between 10.30 and 12.00 or by emailing chair@highgatesociety.com.
Do you enjoy walking in Highgate and the surrounding area?

We publish a series of ten local walking guides and are looking for volunteers to reinvigorate sales to bookshops and other local outlets. Typically as one of a number of volunteers you would maintain contact with one or two local bookshops and other outlets, visiting every few months to replenish their stocks. We’re also always looking for new outlets willing to stock our guides, so on your walks you may find other shops or local attractions who would stock our walking guides. If you like walking and visiting bookshops this is a natural fit. Please email chair@highgatesociety.com if you are interested to be involved.
Caring for the hall

Our hall in Pond Square, Highgate is used for many community activities including talks, parties, pilates and yoga classes, watercolour group, life drawing group, and French Circle. The hall has just been refurbished, and the garden replanted, and they provide attractive and welcoming spaces. The hall is a valued social and community resource for local people to use and enjoy, as well as providing essential income for the Society.

Our friendly and welcoming volunteers help look after the hall and support each other to make sure the hall is spick and span for our community. This includes ensuring tea, coffee, biscuits etc are topped up, organising small repairs and checking the place is clean and tidy for our hirers. You are not expected to do any cleaning or repair work yourself.

If you are interested to find out more, please email chair@highgatesociety.com
And an opportunity for gardeners

The Highgate Society’s Infrastructure and Projects Group has run monthly “tidy-up Highgate” sessions for several years.  Through this work we have seen a lot of open spaces which can become overgrown and fall outside the normal maintenance programmes of Haringey and Camden Councils.  In some cases, such as the small roundabout outside Highgate School, these spaces have been looked after by local residents.  We see the potential for more people to be involved in this.

If you would be interested in getting involved in specific projects where we could make a real impact please do get in touch at infrastructure@highgatesociety.com  or drop into 10A South Grove any Saturday morning between 10:30 and 12 for coffee and to speak to one of the team.
