White Ribbon Day - raising awareness of family violence

Taking a stand means speaking up when you hear or see disrespectful behaviour, taking responsibility for you actions and tackling even the smallest behaviours that wormen might find intimidating. It's about speaking out against misogyny. Ian Thomas - Chief Executive and White Ribbon Ambassador, Kingston Council

White Ribbon Day is held on 25 November, also known as the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women, and is an annual day to raise awareness of family violence.

Kingston Council has recently been given White Ribbon Accreditation which demonstrates our commitment to tackling male violence against women and girls.

Join us at our drop in event on Thursday 25 November from 2-5pm outside the Guildhall. The Kingston Community Safety team, police and specialist services will be speaking to members of the public on the importance of men and boys being part of the conversation to end male violence against women, ensure the voices of women and girls are heard and to highlight the work taking place on a local level to tackle this significant issue.

Can't come to the library? Let the library come to you!

Tucked around the back of Surbiton’s war memorial, next to Surbiton Library you will find the annex which houses the Community Library.

It is filled, floor to ceiling, with a variety of books in different formats. We have many genres in large print, ordinary print and CDs of audio books for residents to borrow. The role of this library is to deliver books to residents who can’t get out to visit their local library, for whatever reason.

For more information email community.library@kingston.gov.uk or call 020 8547 6451.
