Three of Kiwiburn’s departments need new leaders, and new 2iCs: Site Safety, Wellbeing, and Services. The three leaders all sit on ExCom and attend ExCom’s meetings and conferences.
Site Safety Facilitator
This leader is responsible for ensuring Kiwiburn is a physically safe and compliant environment for all on-site personnel. They lead a General Health & Safety team, and two fire teams (the Fire Arts & Safety team and Perimeter team). They work with all other Kiwiburn teams to clearly communicate safety plans and ensure others adhere to these. The job is 2 to 5 hours per week, rising to 5 to 10 hours from September until the Burn, and requires them to be on-site for 4 to 5 days before gates open. Successful applicants should be familiar with Health and Safety legislation, have experience as a team leader (preferably within Kiwiburn), and have strong communication and collaboration skills.
Wellbeing Facilitator
A newly created role, this leader is responsible for ensuring Kiwiburn protects and promotes the mental and physical wellbeing of all participants. They will oversee the Black Sheep Rangers, Sanctuary, Consent Club, Know Your Stuff, and Medics, developing and managing policies to support these teams. The job is 2 to 5 hours per week, rising to 5 to 10 hours from September until the Burn, and requires them to be on-site for 4 to 5 days before gates open. The ideal person for this role should have an understanding of mental health care, consent culture, and drug-related issues relevant to Kiwiburn, as well as previously leadership experience (preferably within Kiwiburn). They should also be an excellent collaborator and communicator.
Services Facilitator
This leader is responsible for looking after Kiwiburn’s “front of house” teams both on- and off-site: Gate, Greeters, Ticketing, Traffic and Parking. This involves project and timeline management, and strong cross-team communication to produce documents and policies. The job is 2-5 hours per week year-round, rising to 5-10 hours a week from September until the Burn; they must also be on the Paddock for 4-5 days prior to the event. Prior team and project management experience is a must, and previous leadership experience within Kiwiburn is desirable.
2iC Roles: Site Safety 2iC, Wellbeing 2iC, and Services Facilitator 2iC
Essentially, sidekicks to help the three Leads achieve everything described above! These roles are 2-5 hours per week year-round, rising to 5-10 hours a week from September until the Burn, with the ability to stand in for their Leads on the Paddock should the need arise. They require good team players with excellent communication and time-management skills, and some team-management experience.

Kiwiburn 2022 is getting close, and we are operating under the assumption that we can make it all go ahead. But there is some uncertainty in the age of Covid, traffic lights, vaccination passports and the whole new world of whatever we are calling this age now.
To ease some of the uncertainty, ExCom will convene shortly after the Government announcement regarding festivals (and general life) on 29 November. Expect an announcement soon thereafter clarifying as much as possible in relation to how the 2022 event will unfold and under what circumstances it will, or will not, go ahead, based on this new guidance. Watch this space!

Have you wondered how Paddock names come about? Hint: It’s not a special ceremony where ancient Burner Gods read your soul and bestow your true identity on you, along with your Paddock Hat and a coupon for free sausage rolls (if only!)
Paddock names happen when they happen: They are no badge of honour, they are not a prize, they are not an indicator that you’re a real Burner now (that’s inside you all along!). But if you want to know more about them, read Lumos’s blog and be Enlightened (he’s into that!).
