We have received notification that resource consents for Stage 1B1 of the SH1 Papakura to Drury project were granted and Notices of Requirement were confirmed (both subject to conditions) on Friday 12 November by an Expert Consenting Panel after applications were lodged under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act in late June.
Information can be found on the EPA website here
Once the 15-day appeal period has closed, Waka Kotahi will be able to commence early works on Stage 1B1.
Early physical works on Stage 1B1 (shown in orange on the map below) are expected to start in early 2022, beginning initially with the construction of new raised bridges at Drury interchange to enable electrification of the railway line between Papakura and Pukekohe. Construction of the main interchange is expected to start in mid-2023.
This consent also gives the green light to a new shared path for pedestrians and people on bikes. The shared path will be built alongside the northbound lane of SH1 between Papakura and Drury. This will extend the Southern Path between Takanini and Papakura, opened in May this year, and will link with the next stage of the project (Stage 1B2) when consented and the rest of a city-wide network being developed.
Construction on Stage 1A (green) of the project began in April this year. Consents for Stage 1B2 (grey) are expected to be lodged in 2022.
