FAQ

What are Masterminds?

Peer-led social learning groups about a specific topic. In Cal Data Visualization Network, those are usually applications used in making data visualization.

When do Mastermind Groups Meet?

Usually 11 to 12pm. Meetings are either monthly or bi-monthly, depending on the topic.

How can I attend?

Current Mastermind Groups:

  • Tableau
  • Excel & Sheets
  • SQL

What to Expect When You Attend:

Mastermind groups are less formal than other Community of Practice meetings. Staff are welcome to bring questions they have related to the topic and hear suggestions from others. They are also encouraged to bring examples of work they've done using the software, or resources they've found to be helpful to share with others.

Mastermind groups are places to network with others on campus who do what you do, and who are interested in the same technical topics. As such, each mastermind group has a Host, but it's attendees who generate the content.

Content includes:

  • Questions
  • Resources
  • Examples
  • Points for discussion
  • Best practices

What Mastermind Groups are Not:

Mastermind groups are not classes. While you may learn something when you attend, it is not a classroom environment. Everyone is encouraged to participate equally. You don't have to be an expert.

Who Can Attend a Mastermind Group?

Anyone in the campus community. Whether you've never used the software before, or you're an expert. Everyone has something to contribute.
