DREAMLINER EVENT
September 25, 2021

(by Rolf Holderegger)

To start with, a big thank you to our tour leader, Nenad, Cargo Manager Switzerland for Air Canada, who did an excellent job.

The tour started at the cargo warehouse of Cargologic, the main provider of cargo services for many airlines operating to Switzerland. Nenad explained a lot about the procedures of air cargo, such as loading the units and use of refrigerated containers that are mainly used by the Swiss pharmaceutical industry.

The tour continued on the airside, passing the baggage area and finally, inside the terminal and by electric train to the E Gates to the parking position of the aircraft. We were able to visit the cockpit of the Dreamliner and stayed around the aircraft for 2 hours as we were able to watch the fueling, loading of the cargo and the baggage into the lower hold, having a close look at the huge engines, crawling up the card and looking at the bulkhold of the aircraft where last minute baggage is loaded as well as live animals. Margo, one of the participants, was allowed to sit inside the push back vehicle while pushing out the aircraft - a special experience for her.

All in all, a great tour on a wonderful Saturday afternoon with a lot of sunshine.

“Lucy” in the sky over the Bahnhofstrasse
(by Judith Guyer-Almstadt)

The beautiful traditional holiday light display “Lucy”, which spans the entire length (1.4 km) of the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich during the holiday season, will be switched on during night shopping on Thursday, November 25, 2021! This lovely tradition, the yearly switching on the holiday lights, is a cause for celebration as it kicks off the holiday season. It’s definitely worth a trip into the city (on your way to Thanksgiving dinner, for example) to take in the sparkling, starlit “Lucy” over the Bahnhofstrasse. Also on November 25th, most stores in Zurich downtown will remain open for night shopping until 22:00.
A bit of trivia: the City of Zurich began the traditional holiday light display “Weihnachtsbeleuchtung” on the Bahnhofstrasse in 1971. “Lucy” has been lighting up the skies of Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse during the holiday season since 2010. “Lucy” is over one kilometer long, and is made up of 12,000 crystals and twice as many lights. Check out this link for more details about Lucy:

The Christmas Markets in the city of Zurich are scheduled to take place this year beginning November 25th. For locations and opening hours:

Wishing you all a joyful holiday season.
