Net Zero

A George IV tilt-top centre table by George Bullock

Although any visitor to our Wick Antiques showroom, or the new warehouse, below, could be forgiven for thinking antique furniture is brown, it is in fact GREEN.  While world leaders and business grandees at COP 26 are brain-storming to make their products more sustainable – we don’t have to!

A pair of Regency brass-inlaid rosewood side cabinets

Any item in our stock made before 1820, has impeccable green credentials.  The trees which were cut down have re-grown multiple times.  Raw materials and finished pieces alike were transported by wind and horse power.  Every component was made by hand.  Admittedly the 19th century ushered in far greater industrialization and carbon emissions inevitably increased, but these have been mitigated over time.

Why do younger people who are so vocal in their support for green initiatives throw out their parents and grandparents hand-me-downs?  Surely it should be a badge of honour for eco warriors to have a house full of re-used or up-cycled furniture in favour of brand new.

And why just in your home? A new desk is a legitimate business expense, no matter whether it is 1 year or 100 years old.

Or do you need a long set of chairs for your boardroom?
….and an imposing chairman’s chair?
Even the waste paper bin is taken care of, while filing cabinets and bookcases were featured in the newsletter of April 2021.

To visit the showroom or order catalogues please email charles@wickantiques.co.uk or visit our website.

And finally, in the warehouse we are waiting for the carpets to go down so that we can start arranging the furniture.
