We have some exciting news to share with you...

Two of our Young Carers, Aisha Tazrouti and Joey Bridge, alongside our staff member Julia Kerr, will be featured on BBC London Evening News tonight!

You may have caught a snippet on the 1:30pm BBC London Lunchtime News today, but please tune into
BBC London Evening News at 6:30pm tonight for the extended evening report.

BBC London recently visited Sutton Carers Centre to follow the journeys of Young Carers Aisha and Joey, and to discover the wealth of support offered through our Young Carers Service. Aisha and Joey both courageously opened up about their own experiences as Sibling Carers both pre and post-pandemic to BBC London Correspondent, Wendy Hurrell. During filming, Wendy also joined the weekly "Chill and Learn" homework club, funded by BBC Children in Need. Throughout this session, Wendy met other Young Carers as well as team members Anna Hetherton, Manager Shukri Mohamed and CEO Rachael MacLeod, to learn more.

We also welcomed to our "Chill and Learn" Homework Club Business Correspondent Shinya Wake from The Asahi Shimbun, 'the most respected daily Japanese-language newspaper'. Shinya joined the session to gain insight for an article on the UK’s advanced support for Young Carers.

Please scroll down to see some 'behind the scenes' shots from the filming!

Tune in to BBC London Evening News at 6:30pm today! If you're on the move, then please don't forget that you can watch it on BBC iPlayer, where you also can catch the shorter BBC London Lunchtime feature, and both later this evening on our YouTube channel here.

We wanted to also take this opportunity to announce that our Young Carers Service has been awarded a further 3 years of funding from BBC Children in Need, which ensures the continuation of the SYCIE (Sutton Young Carers in Education) programme. This programme enables the Young Carers Service to partner with Sutton-based schools, colleges and sixth-forms to support Young Carers with their education and help achieve their aspirations. We would like to thank BBC Children in Need, as well as the London Borough of Sutton and NHS South West London CCG, Sutton for their continued support.

And don't miss the BBC Children in Need Appeal this Friday (19th November), 7pm - 10pm, live on BBC One. You also can watch it on BBC iPlayer.
