ACTUAL FOOTAGE OF US WHEN OUR STRING LIGHTS WORKED

Say watt?!

Somebody tell The Weeknd to get his shades ready, because Sin City Greensboro is about to blind us all with its holiday lights. We're spilling the cocoa on everything you need to know to get that glow – and we're not just stringing you along.

Forward this to someone who's close to burning out.

Putting the lit in persona-lit-y

You can't please everyone. You're not pizza. But – thanks to this week's gift guide – you can satisfy almost anyone on your holiday list. We've rounded up gifts by personality, covering even the most difficult recipient. Not that we have anyone in mind there. (We promise it's not you, Mom.)

SPONSORED BY PARTICIPATING RETAILERS

Give your tween a prezzie that's more colorful than your language and more sparkling than her personality. Yes, it is possible with this rainbow bling boombox from Polliwogs. With LED light-up dancing speakers, bluetooth capabilities, and rockin' sound quality, she won't be just the life of the party – she will be the party.
What do you get for that person who has everything? They've got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty, whosits and whatsits galore – plus, 20 thingamabobs already. Instead of expanding their waistlines with more sweets this year, broaden their horizons with a package of tickets to four UNCG Concert & Lecture Series events. This gift will literally blow their minds.
For the extroverted homebody, give a gift that's meant to be shared with her cat a friend and simultaneously will satisfy her burning desire. Scent Workshop's candle-making kits supply her with everything she needs to create two custom candles right at home. Pairs well with a bottle of wine, two glasses and Adele's latest album drop.
For the Energizer bunny type who's been going nonstop all year without taking a moment to breathe, Moonbird's got the goodies that will have them saying, "Om yes!" A daily meditation book paired with tea, a mug and other zen-sational goods will help them create all the inner peace and calm they need to feel recharged.

Give it away, give it away now

Today is Giving Tuesday, a day to give back to our community. Do something that makes you feel good about yo'elf and then come back tomorrow for Want-It-All-Wednesday. OK, so we made up that last bit, but we'd 100% support that cause, too. Speaking of causes, hit up here and here for local organizations to support.

Room for everyone on the nice list

Now through December 3, drop off new and gently used toys or – everybody's fav gift – cold, hard cash to several Santa's Workshop collection points to be donated to families in need. Misfit toys welcome here.

Art's a wonderful life gift

From 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, shop the Art Alliance Annual Student Sale at the Greensboro Cultural Center. Browse creations from more than 25 fine arts students and student potters. And now we understand why there's "arts" in Hogwarts.

Put on your yarmulke

The Greensboro Public Library knows how much funukah it is to celebrate Hanukkah. If you really, really wannakah, check out their weeklong Festival of Lights celebratory display and grab a festive craft kit to take home-akah.

Have yourself a movie little Christmas

Add more hours to your daily screen time allotment, because Christmas classics roll on at the Carolina Theatre this week. Enjoy Elf, The Muppet Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful LifeThe Polar Express and White Christmas. And remember: Every time a ticket sale rings, an angel gets its wings. Or something like that.

When we sip, you sip, we shop

Officially coming to Greensboro in February 2022, The Borough Market + Bar is a brand-new concept featuring two of our fav things under one roof – bougie and bubbly goods. Now through December 22, it's open 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, for shopping only.

Mice, ice, baby

Ice palace for one, ice show for many. Disney on Ice presents Mickey's Search Party at the Greensboro Coliseum, December 2-5.

Make if a December to remember

No, we're not suggesting you gift a Lexus. (But if you do, we'd like the UX hybrid in white pearl, thanks.) Downtown in December kicks off this Friday with Santa-sized sackfulls of fun for the whole fam.

  • Get lit – or, rather, watch the city tree get lit – in Center City Park. The Festival of Lights runs from 5:30-9 p.m., featuring live entertainment from AGT's 1aChord, Mount Zion Choir, Wally West and Wassailers. Meet us afterward with our own crew of less melodic wassailers.
  • Beginning December 3, tromp through LeBauer Park to take in 50 trees uniquely decorated by local organizations and families. Take us to Tinsel Town, but then ya gotta move on.
  • From noon-2 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, downtown will be full of hot air as the Holiday Parade glides through the streets with balloons and performers.
  • An elfie lovers dream, Peppermint Alley, located next to Boxcar Bar + Arcade will be open December 3-31 for photo ops galore. Free for everyone, including elf-fluencers.

Santa – we know him!

If your ideal partner is jolly, loves kids and the color red, is into wily facial hair and his body says, "likes cookies and belly laughs," then we've got the guy for you. Meet him at any one of these establishments of merriment.

  • Summerfield Farms has a few spots still open for Santa & S'mores, which runs through December 9. Move over, chestnuts. It's marshmallows we want roasting on an open fire.
  • Your kiddos – both two-legged and four-legged – can get friendly with Santa at Friendly Center through December 24. Nothing says "Meow-y Christmas" like a photo of Santa with your kitty.
  • Christmas at Smith Hollow Farm is open weekends through December 12. Meet Santa and his reindeer llamas, sip cocoa, take a hayride through a winter wonderland and enjoy a toasty bonfire.

Those Christmas lights light up the street

We can't guarantee that Christmas lights will bring her back to you or that your troubles will be gone, but they will keep shining on. One out of three ain't bad. Sorry, Chris Martin.

  • Take a stroll, yule jog or drive through The Nicest Place in North Carolina to enjoy beautifully lit Christmas balls adorning the trees. Pairs well with Schweddy balls. (P.S. Don't forget to sign up for the Running of the Balls on Saturday, December 11.)
  • If you're more into car-dio than cardio, Tanglewood Park's Festival of Lights is open though January 1, 2022, making spirits – and the park – bright.
  • Finally, glow wild at the Greensboro Science Center's Winter Wonderlights. Walk through as you take in the musical light shows and displays. Just beware of the ve-lights-iraptor.

Our fav Christmas Carol is Baskin

The Carolina Theatre will ring with Christmas glee this week as it welcomes four live music shows. If you're seeking a sound that sounds merry, check out the Choral Society of Greensboro's performance of Handel's Messiah at 7 p.m. on December 1, Robert Earl Keen's Americana-style in The Road to Christmas at 8 p.m. on December 2, or The Alter Ego's soulful Holiday Affair at 8 p.m. on December 4. And if you'd like to groove to anything but holiday jams, don's miss City of industry at 7:30 p.m. on December 2.

1fa + 8la = festive

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Market Street invites you to Deck the Halls – not your family, as you may have hoped. Shop the holiday market or join in their free family fun.

So a-door-able

The elves aren't the only ones hammering away as the minutes to Christmas count down.Yule be working hard as you create a door hanger or lazy Susan with AR Workshop at Summerfield Farms at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 4. Wreaths die, but door hangers are forever.

Support local elves

From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. this Sunday, December 5, grab your last chance to shop handmade goods, wares and treats at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market's Made 4 the Holidays. All we want for Christmas is food. But make it fancy.

He sees you when you're dancing

Not ready to jingle your jangles yet, whatever that means? Drop the beat with the little drummer boy a special Giving Tuesday Afro-Rhythms class at 6 p.m. tonight at the Greensboro Cultural Center or via Zoom.

Will wake for snacks

Phew, that's a whole lotta merry-freaking-making. Time to crack open the egg nog and pass out settle in for a long winter's nap. Can someone come move our elf tonight?
