¿NECESITA LA INFORMACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL?
Principal: Rosa Alvarado- ralvarado@isl-edu.org

Thank you to the ISL staff and our partners who worked together to coordinate our campus vaccination clinics. Health Heroes held a Vaccination Clinic at all ISL Campuses Thursday, November 18th, 2021 to provide the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible students. We were happy to see that many of our ISL families responded by submitting their student's consent forms and providing the necessary information so we can assist students and families at school.

  • The second dose of the vaccine will be given on December 9th, 2021 to those students who received the first dose.

As a reminder, fully vaccinated students, teachers, and staff with no COVID-19 symptoms do not need to quarantine at home following an exposure to someone with COVID-19.

ISL Campuses each have a Campus Nurse available to assist families. Please don’t hesitate to contact your Campus Nurse with any questions.

WHERE CAN MY CHILD GET THE COVID-19 VACCINE?

Letter from the Principal

Dear Dixon Families,

Thanksgiving is my favorite season. So many of us focus on sharing, giving, promoting appreciation, and reminding ourselves of how fortunate we are to live in a place with many possibilities. I feel called to reflect and continue to adjust to the changes caused by the pandemic. Together, we have found strength and resilience and are overcoming the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.

I am writing this message with much gratitude. Our Dixon Campus is fortunate to have such exceptional children, responsible and caring parents /guardians, prepared and diligent faculty and staff, and a supportive group of administrators and Directors.

I am also sending a special note of appreciation to all families, faculty, and staff who attended our Mix & Mingle Family Engagement activity on Saturday, November 6. Your attendance contributed to this event. It was joyful and successful. Many thanks to all families who registered and attended the two family workshops provided by Roots Connected on November 4 and November 9. I hope that the topics presented on Anti-Racism and the discussion on privilege and power have been beneficial to our community and helped us discover different ways to help educate children in our very diverse world. Similarly, I am looking forward to hearing from parents on their takeaways from the workshop provided on November 11, “Using A Critical Literacy Lens With My Kids.” If you would like to share your feedback, please email me at ralvarado@isl-edu.org.

Please remember that our school will be closed for students during the Thanksgiving break from November 22-26. Our faculty and staff will be on professional development on November 22, so they will be unavailable during this time. If you email our faculty or staff, please be mindful that you will not receive a response until after the break.

On behalf of the Dixon campus, we wish your family a safe and healthy Thanksgiving!

Atentamente,

Rosa Alvarado

Language All Around with Mr. Jeremy
Entering language learning through songs is a fun way to increase vocabulary, improve language skills and enrich cultural heritage.

Nursery rhymes are many and often used in pedagogy to learn syntax structures such as hello, how are you, etc. Recognizing the melody increases the engagement of the students who find themselves in a familiar environment such as the jingle Bell song called Vive le Vent in French or Cascabeles in Spanish. I really  encourage you to have this practice through the songs offered by teachers in google classroom or turn on the radio in the car and listen to Spanish or French songs !

November 2021 National Observances

Our partners at Action for Healthy Kids shared some important reminders with us and we wanted to share them with you.

November, in the United States, has been most notably characterized by Thanksgiving. Those who are able prepare large meals for family friends, and spend time connecting with their loved ones. In recent years, November is also calling attention to other worthy notions:

Movember creates awareness about mental health, suicide prevention, and cancer. The movement encourages men to grow mustaches to call attention to male mental health matters. Globally, on average 1 man dies by suicide every day. Learn to spot the signs of men dealing with depression.

Native American Heritage Month – This year’s theme is "Rising Above Adversities:  Bringing Native Voices to the Forefront." The theme centers on the history and journey of Native Americans as sovereign Nations with distinct cultures who have made numerous meaningful contributions to our society. It is an important reminder to help amplify Tribal voices to eliminate biases and barriers.

We wanted to bring attention to these worthy causes.
