Thursday Nov. 25 & Friday, Nov. 26 the church office will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday
This Sunday is the last Sunday of the church year! Advent is just a week or so away. The last Sunday of the church year is always the Reign of Christ Sunday. On this day we look back at the journey of Jesus. We remember his life, death and resurrection. We remember who our God is and what God calls us to be. We remember our call to discipleship and to transform the world! We wrap up our 3 week sermon series on the Kingdom of God this Sunday with John 18:33-37. With an eye on eternity, we recommit to our discipleship journey, following Jesus’ example of humility, love, justice and grace.
It is fitting that Thanksgiving is a week from today as well! For as we remember all these attributes of our awesome God, we give great THANKS!

I hope you will join us for worship either at 8:30am online, 9am in the Sanctuary or 10am in the Worship Center.

See you there!

A Word From Our Youth Director

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10b)

Every year, we are blessed to have a cornucopia on the altar of our sanctuary for Thanksgiving.  It is a beautiful reminder of the season, but it is a symbol that means so much more.  Also known as the “horn of plenty,” the cornucopia is a reminder of the abundance that God has blessed us with.
While they are typically filled with fruit, flowers, and vegetables, I wonder what you have an abundance of this year.  After all, these are typically the things for which we give thanks – the love of family and friends, the roof over our head, or the food on our table.  But this year, I challenge you to fill your horn of plenty with symbols that remind you of things that you might take for granted – the abundance of clean water, education, or reliable transportation. Take some time now to think about all of the things that you have been blessed with.

In John 10, Jesus tells us that he is the gate for the sheep, providing them the protection to live abundantly.  This Thanksgiving, may you recognize this abundance in your life and use it to bless those around you.

Bryce Fuhrmann
Youth Director
Week 3 of being extra thankful! This week in the children’s corner of the church, we have learned that God wants us to have a heart of gratitude. We learned that sometimes life goes pretty smoothly. We’re happy. We have lots of friends. School is going great. Our family is getting along. We just got the latest video game for our birthday. In those times, we look around at how things are going, and we can’t help but feel grateful. Thankful.
Other times life doesn’t go so smoothly. We’re sad or even scared. A close friend did something that showed they weren’t a very good friend at all. School might be a struggle. We don’t enjoy our siblings this week. We didn’t get a video game for our birthday. When life is like that, what are we supposed to do? Well, according to the Bible, we are supposed to give thanks. What? It makes sense to give thanks when things are going great, but when things are a little rough? Life is always changing – sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad. But God never changes. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good. There will never be a time when God is not good.

January is going to be here before we know it and the Angel House Mission Team is excited to go to Africa so they can get to work! They will partner with a team at Angel House to paint the new kindergarten building, inside and out, with colorful murals! You can get involved in this mission from home by sponsoring a paint color! Each color sponsorship is $50. (There are multiple sponsorship opportunities for a few colors since we will need a LOT of each of the different colors!) The team will do shout outs to our color sponsors during the trip in front of a mural with their color choice! To sponsor a color, sign up in the church office. Our deadline for donations is December 1. Thank you for your support of our mission!"- John Macera, Janet Postier, Jenna Roskilly, Jenah Moody

Mark your calendars now for Saturday, December 4, and plan to help support our largest fundraising event for missions during the 23rd Winterfest Craft Fair. This is a day when we open up our church to the community for an opportunity to shop and see the work of our crafters, bid on silent auction items and purchase baked goods donated by Woodlawn members.

Sign-up sheets are available in the foyer and the
Worship Center for all the volunteer positions. Opportunities to serve will begin Thursday evening, December 2nd, with booth setup and decorating and continue through Saturday evening, December 4th, with cleanup and restoring the church for services on Sunday morning. Many volunteers are essential to make this day a success.  Please consider signing up for one or more shifts during this event. Thank you!

SIGN, SIGN, EVERYWHERE A SIGN!

Attention Woodlawn members – your help is needed to paint the town of Derby with signs promoting our 23rd Winterfest. Each year we advertise our event in area newspapers and place signs around town.
Beginning November 25th and continuing through December 5th, you can help us generate attention for our event by putting a Winterfest sign in your front yard. While the city of Derby has placed a restriction on how many signs we can post around town, the number does not include those signs posted on personal property. The only restriction for placing signs on your property is that they must be at least 8 feet from the curb.

In mid November, yard signs will be available in the narthex for you to pick up. If you have retained a sign from prior years, please reuse that sign this year. Signs may be posted in your yard beginning Wednesday, November 25th, and should be removed no later than 48 hours following the event. After Winterfest, you may return the sign to the church or feel free to keep it in your home or garage so that you can post it again in 2022!  Thank you!
Share this Event with your friends and family from Woodlawn's Facebook page.

From Woodlawn’s Reopening Team
Woodlawn’s Reopening Team continues to monitor the Covid data for Sedgwick County. The data has been trending in a positive direction for the past 6 weeks. As a result, we are modifying our recommendation and ask that you protect yourselves and others with vaccinations or masking and continue to practice social distancing and hand sanitizing. The team continues to meet weekly to review the data and determine what precautions are necessary. As always, our recommendation will continue to reflect what we see in the data. If you have questions, you are invited to contact any member of our reopening team.
