Thank you for joining the Chronic Disease GIS Network on Basecamp!
We are glad to welcome you as a member of the Chronic Disease GIS Network – a community of colleagues from Health Departments and Tribal Epidemiology Centers who are interested in using geographic information systems (GIS) to address chronic disease priorities and reduce health disparities. In this community you will find GIS training opportunities and resources along with opportunities to discuss ideas with fellow GIS users. Participants with all levels of experience are welcome – whether you are just learning about GIS or a skilled user.
Getting Started
The Chronic Disease GIS Network HQ is the home page for the Chronic Disease GIS Network on Basecamp. Chronic Disease GIS Network HQ provides a virtual space and tools for members to share information and stay up to date on all things GIS. We have developed a guide to help you get started and access Network tools and resources (e.g. the message board, schedule docs and files, and more).
Using Topic Channels
The channels below have been set up to facilitate discussion on specific GIS-related topics; more channels will be added over time.
A forum for sharing ideas and questions regarding implementation of the Rate Stabilizing Tool (RST) – an ArcGIS-based tool that allows users to input their own record-level data to generate reliable, local-level, age-standardized measures of chronic disease or other population health outcomes. Learn more about the tool here.
A space to share examples of unique cartography, discuss strategies for clear map communication, and notify members of mapmaking webinars.
A link to a folder on Box with materials from GIS trainings. Each training module includes a lecture, a hands-on exercise using ArcGISPro and/or ArcGIS Online, and the data needed to complete the exercise. (Access to ArcGIS ArcGISPro and/or ArcGIS Online is required.)
If you are interested in any of these channels, just click on the channel link to join. If you are interested in a topic that is not listed, let us know! You can use Ping to contact any of the CEHI Training Team: Joshua Tootoo, Ben Maxson, or Yang Li with your ideas.
Thanks again for joining us!
The Chronic Disease GIS Network Team
The GIS Guidance Team - NACDD, CDC, and CEHI - look forward to continuing our collaboration to best support you, the GIS Network.
