Ahoy Sailor!

Happy December! The holiday season is in full swing in Annapolis and we're excited for all of the fun events that come with it. One of our favorites at the school is the EYC Parade of Lights, where dozens of boats get decked out for the holidays. See if you can spot our Catalina 30 Stargazer!

Even though classes don't start back up until April, we're already taking bookings for the 2022 season. Our cruising classes are sold out for April with limited availability in May and June, so be sure to book early to lock in your spot. We have plenty of space left in our ASA 101 and KidShip courses! Sailing courses or gift cards make a great last minute Christmas present too!

We're also celebrating the one-year anniversary of TellTales this month! We'd like to thank all of our subscribers for reading and keeping up with the Sailing School over this past crazy year. We can't wait to see what 2022 brings us, and we're looking forward to seeing everyone when it's warmer outside!

What's Happening at Annapolis Sailing School

All of our instructors gathered for an end-of-season meeting to review this year and give suggestions for making next year even better! What a great looking group!
Now that it's too cold to sail, our marina staff has been working hard to pull all the docks to check them and make sure they're ready to go for the 2022 season!
When our marina staff isn't pulling and cleaning docks, they're keeping our Rainbows in tip-top shape! Orange boat was just in the shop getting touched up.
To celebrate the end of a fantastic season, Sailing School owners Rick and Jenny Nelson treated our staff members to a haunted pub tour in Annapolis!
Staff Members of the Month!
This month, we couldn't just feature one staff member. All of our office staff, marina staff and sailing instructors worked so hard to make 2021 one of our best seasons yet, and we're incredibly grateful for this wonderful crew! Pictured above are most of our instructors and office staff. Thanks for a great year!
Getting in the Holiday Spirit!
The holiday season is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year, and it's extra special here in Annapolis! This year, several of our KeelBoat Club members decorated Stargazer, our Catalina 30, for the Eastport Yacht Club Parade of Lights! These lucky few will get to ride on the boat during the parade. It's a great holiday experience for the family, so don't miss out! The parade will be in Spa Creek in Annapolis on December 11 from 6pm to 8pm. Check out these behind-the-scenes photos of our decorating crew!

A Different Kind of Holiday Delivery
When you think of deliveries in December, you're probably thinking of piles of boxes full of presents. Our assistant office manager and sailing instructor Michaela got to do a different kind of delivery: taking a Jeanneau sailboat from the Chesapeake Bay down to Charleston, South Carolina! The trip took six days with variable wind throughout and mostly clear weather!

According to Michaela....
  • The best parts were...watching the sunrise and sunset every day, seeing the stars and making friends with other sailors along the way
  • Her least favorite parts were...staying up for late night watches, docking with strong current
  • It was her first time...sailing a twin helm boat, sleeping on a boat underway and sailing in the ocean

Check out some photos from her delivery below!
Contribution Corner: The Queen of All Food Drives
Since 2011, Watermark has been holding holiday fundraisers for the Anne Arundel County Food Bank with a celebration on the Harbor Queen during Eastport Yacht Club's Parade of Lights. Harbor Queen becomes truly royal with Christmas decorations, festive music, a cash bar and a front row seat to the parade! To participate, bring non-perishable food items, pet food and/or a suggested monetary donation of $10 to the event. All proceeds will benefit the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.
