Indigenous History Feature
This painted puzzle pipe stem was donated to the Collingwood Museum in 1985 and is believed to have been crafted in the Plains cultural area of southern Alberta.
Metal tools, gained through trade with Europeans, enabled this new style of long-stemmed pipe to be crafted and used by First Nations people. Notes from the donor indicate that this pipe was likely sent home to Collingwood by Sam Trott when he travelled west. Unfortunately, this is all that is documented in the collections records.

The Collingwood Museum is committed to sharing monthly posts that showcase objects from the Indigenous Collection and our efforts to learn more about the cultures, communities, families and experiences they represent.
