Sermon Text:  Luke 3:1-6
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah,

'The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

New J.O.Y. Class Study—the Book of James—Started
November 28th

James, a half-bother of Jesus, wrote this book to encourage Christians. Its teaching has its roots in Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. This study shows us how to learn to:

·       Be patient,
·       Overcome temptation,
·       Practice what the Bible teaches (be “doers of the Word, not hearers          only”),
·       Be prepared for extra trials and testing,
·       Turn defeat into victory and trial into triumph,
·       Make peace,
·       Pray and get results.

In short, the Book of James deals with every area of a Christian’s life. We’d love to have you join the J.O.Y. class for this powerful 5-week study.

Toys for Tots
In case you haven’t seen it yet, there is a Toys for Tots collection box over in Berly hall.  In past years we have done such a wonderful job of collecting toys we earned an award!  Please open your hearts to giving of a new unwrapped toy to be given to children in need in our local communities.  You can also donate money too. Checks should be made out to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.  The cut-off date is December 12.

Grief Support Group
Almost everyone knows someone going through grief; it might be a friend, family member, neighbor or coworker.  GriefShare is an 11-week video seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life after losing a loved one.  Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and want to help you through the difficult weeks ahead.  Our first session will be held on WEDNESDAY, January 12, 2022; we will meet from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the WINGS classroom.  Barb Ottinger will be leading the group, with help from Karen Sinkway.  We welcome all to our first meeting.  If you would like to sign up, please call the church office at 843-237-2294.

AED/CPR Training
St. Paul’s Waccamaw UMC has purchased two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for emergency use in the event of a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest.  One is located in the Sanctuary Narthex and the other in Christian Learning Center located on the wall across from the restrooms.

We are planning a training event for volunteers in the near future.  Our plan is to train members of the congregation who attend both the Traditional and Casual services.  Our target is to train twelve volunteers so that we have enough to cover both services and other church events.  The church is paying the training fee for the instructor and equipment - no cost to volunteers.

Please contact the church office (843-237-2294) or Dave Streeter (703-786-0670) if you are willing to take the training and become one of "St. Paul’s AED Angels.”
