Eye 102 is on its way at last. Subscribers’ copies will be mailed out next week, and it should be in your favourite independent magazine shop a short while afterwards.

To celebrate the launch of this type special, we are going to present an ‘In Real Life’ event at St Bride Library next Thursday 9 December. We’re calling it ‘Eye IRL’ and it will feature Lucinda Rogers, Supermundane, MagCulture, Fedrigoni … and me and Simon, talking about Pulp and the new Eye.

The venue is St Bride Foundation, Thursday 9 December in the Bridewell Hall from 6-9.30pm – our first time back there since Type Tuesday in early March 2020. We’ll have a few tables set up with things to buy, including prints, books and badges from Rob Lowe (aka Supermundane), choice indie mags from Jeremy Leslie’s MagCulture and some bargain back issues of Eye.

You can also browse a wide range of paper samples from Fedrigoni, along with complimentary copies of Pulp, the journal of people and paper that Eye makes for the Italian paper company.

There will also be a presentation from acclaimed illustrator Lucinda Rogers about her reportage drawings from COP26 in Glasgow.

Simon Esterson and I will introduce the new type special, Eye 102, which features Thomas Huot-Marchand, Laura Meseguer, November, Joe Caroff, the Nebiolo Project and ‘Global type tour’, an extensive report from “Typographics 21’.

And there will be panel discussions with Jeremy Leslie (MagCulture), Rob Lowe (Supermundane) and surprise guests.

Please wear a mask and bring your vaccination proof / QR code: we will be checking them at the door. Tickets £12.50, £10 members / concessions, £8 students.

All proceeds go to support the St Bride Foundation.

Some of the shows listed on our Eye Events page include ‘Anni and Josef Albers: L’art et la vie’ in Paris; ‘Change Everything’ until 30 Jan in Old Street; the Indian online conference Kyoorius Designyatra: ‘Designers and Citizens’ finishing today (3 December 2021); the forthcoming ‘Design and Healing: Creative Responses to Epidemics’ at the Cooper Hewitt in New York; and ‘Use Hearing Protection: The early years of Factory Records’, on until 3 January 2022 in Manchester.

Simon was on press at Pureprint with our new type special issue just over a week ago, and it’s now being bound, stacked and packed up in sturdy cardboard boxes. Eye 102 has a rather special cover, as you will discover.
