Hi <<First Name *>>,

The holiday season is upon us, and you know what that means?  Lots of temptation!   Healthy eating over the holidays can be difficult.  It is easy to get off track, and all the extra calories and unhealthy food and drink can cause digestive upset.

Here are some tips on how to make healthy choices but still enjoy the holidays.

Moderation and portion control.  On days you know you will be enjoying an indulgent, festive dinner, be sure to eat healthy nutrient-dense meals before and after.  Don’t skip meals to leave room for the big dinner you have planned.   Also, make sure to monitor portion sizes.  Don’t overload your plate.  Reach for more veggies and enjoy smaller tastes of the stuffing and potatoes.

Walk after eating and stick to your exercise routine. Don’t let the craziness of the holiday throw off your workout schedule, in fact, try to fit in some extra steps.  Park farther away from the shopping mall entrance and take an extra lap around the mall before leaving.

Slow down and enjoy your food.  Take your time eating and savour the flavour.   Wait ten minutes before going back for more! Listen to your stomach and stop eating when you are full.

Plan activities that don’t involve food.  Go for a sleigh ride, play some fun games, walk around the neighbourhood looking at holiday lights.

Choose and offer healthier foods.   There are plenty of delicious recipes that are healthy alternatives to traditional holiday foods.  Include lots of whole foods, fruits and vegetables in your diet.  Alternate drinking a glass of sparkling water with holiday cocktails.
