Greetings from the Center for Faculty Advancement (CFA)! As you near the end of 2021, we want to thank you for your hard work, and for making students feel included, engaged, and intellectually challenged despite weathering another semester of this pandemic.
We hope you find time to rest and recharge during the winter recess. But before you disappear into finals, grading, and some winter cheer, we want to promote the following programs:
CFA is pleased to announce the Teaching Advancement Grant (TAG). This grant aims to develop innovative curricular programs and projects, including new academic courses and expanded existing courses or programs. TAG seeks to build upon the success of an earlier fund, the Curricular Development Challenge Fund (CDCF) that has now been sunsetted. See more information in the below newsletter and please note the deadline for proposals is January 18, 2022.
The Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA) highlights NYU’s commitment to teaching excellence, and is given annually to outstanding members of the faculty. Recipients are awarded a research stipend. Students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni are invited to submit nominations to their school's DTA representative no later than, December 8, 2021. Final nominations are due on February 16, 2022. Please see more information in the below newsletter.
A special shout-out to the College & Career Lab and the faculty who support it, some of whom are featured in the Center’s new video and website. As CCL plans to return to in-person programming for summer 2022, help support the Rising Violets campaign and contact the program (collegecareerlab@nyu.edu) to learn how to get involved.
Finally, a reminder to complete the university’s mandatory sexual harassment prevention training before winter break, which begins on December 23, 2021. The training is available in iLearn. Please see the newsletter for details and instructions.

Teaching Advancement Grant (TAG)
The Center for Faculty Advancement (CFA) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Teaching Advancement Grant (TAG). This grant aims to fund innovative curricular programs and projects at NYU, including new academic courses and programs, and enhanced existing courses, programs, and special projects. TAG seeks to build upon the success of the Curricular Development Challenge Fund (CDCF) that has now been sunsetted. TAG’s innovative collaboration model includes measurable, evidence-based, practices capable of improving student learning in a variety of contexts. The deadline to apply is January 18, 2022.

Recipients are awarded a research stipend. Students, faculty, and alumni wishing to submit a nomination are encouraged to contact their assigned School Representative by December 8, 2021. Teaching and Learning Resources and Support
Teaching Observations have returned to the physical classroom, and are still available in the virtual classroom. Skilled consultants will watch you teach and interact with your students, and then provide confidential feedback. The Center for Faculty Advancement’s educational design consultants are also available for Teaching Consultations. Consultations may address individual teaching needs or department needs for teaching support services, including custom teaching workshops.

Early Career Faculty Institute (ECFI)
NYU’s Office of the Provost and its Center for Faculty Advancement launched the Early Career Faculty Institute (ECFI) on November 18, 2021 in-person. The inaugural cohort consists of 42 faculty across all NYU schools. Provost Katherine Fleming kicked off the session with a discussion about tenure at NYU, followed by a panel of university leadership who explained tenure expectations and the tenure review process. The series will continue in the spring, and tackle topics on research, publishing and portfolio, and teaching at NYU.

Immersive Technology (iTLab) Consultations
The Center for Faculty Advancement offers remote and in-person introductions to virtual reality (VR) through the iTLab. Faculty may request and receive instructional workshops in VR hardware and software, presentations, and expert guidance regarding best practices when working with immersive technologies. College & Career Lab (CCL)
College & Career Lab (CCL) is jumpstarting a new year with a Rising Violets campaign and a new summer 2022 program. CCL is a free six-year pathway program serving low-income, middle and high school students of color attending NYC public schools. Administered by CFA, CCL seeks to ignite students' interests and passions, and nurture their career aspirations by exposing them to a diversity of academic and career opportunities. NYU Faculty First-Look Programs (FFL)
NYU Faculty First-Look Programs (FFL) is an NYU initiative created to prepare diverse, talented, scholars for faculty careers. NYU Colleges and Schools invite underrepresented, gifted, scholars, who are completing their PhD, EdD, or other relevant terminal degrees to apply to participate in programming that provides a glimpse into what it takes to prepare for future faculty careers—particularly in disciplines and fields represented in schools and programs across NYU. We are pleased to announce that a new NYU FFL Steinhardt cohort begins this March 2022 (apply by December 15, 2021). And, NYU Stern will host its second FFL Diverse Pathways in Academia on January 21, 2022.

TeachTalks (CFA)
This spring 2022, TeachTalks continue to explore the theme: Adapting to Change, Reflecting on Practice. How has the last year and a half prompted us to rethink how we teach, learn, and assess these practices? We’ll hear from a student panel in addition to our usual faculty facilitators, and consider such topics as contract grading as a way of reassessing practices too long taken for granted. And as a follow-up to our 2019-2020 Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA) winner panel in the fall, we’re thrilled to host a panel of 2020-2021 DTA recipients this spring.

Faculty Resource Network (FRN) Student Exchange Program
In spring 2022, the FRN Student Exchange Program at NYU will work with five Network institutions: Morehouse College, Spelman College, the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus, the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, and Xavier University of Louisiana. The program provides outstanding sophomore and junior undergraduates with opportunities to spend a spring semester of full-time study at a host campus enjoying an experience unique to these richly historic institutions. Faculty Resource Network (FRN) Network Winter
FRN Network Winter will be hosted by the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón campus in San Juan, Puerto Rico from January 10-14, 2022. The program is a week-long intensive professional development opportunity for instructors to engage with distinguished faculty members from colleges and universities throughout the country. Each program of study explores teaching methodologies that will have a direct impact on the undergraduate curriculum and educational experience. Faculty Resource Network (FRN) Teach Share
FRN Teach Share is a three-day event held from January 18-20, 2022, via Zoom. Through peer-to-peer learning and discussion, the group will share challenges and solutions for keeping students engaged and active in the classroom. Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC) Seed Funding
Apply for IHDSC Seed Funding! Supported by the Cross-Cutting Initiative on Inequality, the IHDSC is committed to funding new projects that bridge multiple domains of expertise and demonstrate a commitment to “Unraveling Inequality, Expanding Opportunity.” Projects must fit one of these four categories: Education and Child Development; Race, Poverty, and Inequality; Health and Wellbeing; and Justice and Welfare Systems. Awards typically range from $10,000 - $15,000 and do not exceed $20,000. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on January 14th, 2022. National Science Foundation Innovation-Corps (I-Corps) Grants
The NYU Entrepreneurial Institute is hosting a series of information sessions about I-Corps, a National Science Foundation (NSF) accelerator program that supports commercializing research, particularly the knowledge gap between basic research and "deep technology ventures.” Participating teams receive a $50,000 grant and hands-on immersive learning. Important Reminder: Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
Complete your NYU Sexual Harassment Prevention training by December 23, 2021! Under both New York State and City law, all NYU New York employees are required to do the training regardless of where they are currently located during the coronavirus pandemic. Access the Online Course in the NYU iLearn portal. Remember to sign the acknowledgment at the end of the training to be certified! Note: If you are a new employee who started on or after January 1, 2021, and have taken the training, you have already satisfied the 2021 requirement. If you have questions about whether you have met the requirement, you can quickly check your transcript by selecting "transcript and certificates" in NYU iLearn.
