Motor neurone disease is particularly cruel. Not only does it progress rapidly, it is currently incurable. Little is known about how the disease is caused, or how it starts in the brain and spinal cord. Researcher Dr Andras Lakatos has been working to shed light on this.
The Rooprai Spinal Trust works across the UK helping individuals with spinal cord injuries to experience the benefits of intensive, specialised physiotherapy. It’s now supporting four more Cambridgeshire residents thanks to The Evelyn Trust.

Seizures in newborn babies are very hard to diagnose. This is a critical issue because babies with repeated seizures in the first few weeks of life can suffer brain damage. Dr Ronit Pressler’s research has been tackling this issue.
