Weekly Update

This week we have our third God-Lived-Life service devoted to the idea of being hospitable in Christ's name. This is not a topic we talk about as frequently, but it's a very important part of the Christian life and I hope you can attend or tune in.

Our YouTube channel is the new place to watch our services. Make sure to like and and subscribe to boost our rankings! And consider leaving a comment from time to time so we know who's watching. Thanks!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR
This year we'll have a reverse Advent food drive similar to last year. However, due to space,
we will give you a more narrow window during which to bring in the food you collect, sometime after school is out. But you can start collecting food now.

RACHEL TAASAAS CALL
Miss Taasaas has received a call to serve as a teacher at Lakewood Lutheran School in Lakewood, WA.  Please keep her in your prayers as she deliberates this call along with the call she currently holds at St. Matthew, and give her feedback as you feel led.

GLEN METZGER CALL
We extended a call to Mr. Glenn Metzger, currently serving as a 5th-6th grade teacher at St Lucas School in Bayview, WI, to serve as our 5th-6th grade teacher next year. If you would like to send him a short encouraging note, by all means send an email to Glenn_fi@hotmail.com.

SUNDAY SEATING REMINDER
Please remember to reserve the last two pews in the back of the church for those who have limited mobility, those with toddlers, and late arrivals. Ideally, try to fill up the church from the front! You can do it!

BASKETBALL FUN NIGHTS FOR ADULTS
These are still open. There were 12 people, mostly parents and coaches, at the one I attended. Location: First Church of the Nazarene Gym. When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00-6:30 pm. Open to high schoolers and older. See Erika Rosenbaum with questions!

PARADE AND CHRISTMAS CAROLING IN IDAHO 12/4
UPDATED INFO FROM PASTOR SCHULTZ

"Hey Vine faith family. This coming Saturday is another big outreach event for our church as we participate in the Hayden Christmas parade and also caroling afterwards.

1. We could still use a few more people to hand out candy to the children along the parade route. I hope you can help with that.

2. We also need to borrow a couple of children's wagons to carry the bags of candy.

3. The parade starts at 5 pm. Meet on Government Way just north of Hayden Ave. at about 4:30 pm.

4. You are welcome to dress festively and represent the Vine with lots of lights, lots of smiles, and lots of Christmas cheer! 😊

5. After the parade is finished, we will be heading up to New Leaf Nursery (southwest corner of Government Way and Lancaster Ave) to sing Christmas carols from 6:30-7:30 for customers as they shop for their Christmas tree. We did this last weekend as well, and it was a lot of fun. Everyone is welcome to come and sing Christmas carols with us.

As you can see, there's a lot going on these days, but it's great being a part of an active church like the Vine. See you on Saturday! I love you all."

ADVENT WORSHIP
Continues. Because the service is shorter it's also a good chance to socialize afterwards.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS WORSHIP SERVICES
There are now two opportunities to watch the K-8 Christmas program:
Thursday, December 9th, at 10:30 am
Sunday, December 12th, at 4:00 pm
Due to seating capacity, we encourage you to attend this December 9th showing if possible.  The preschool program is still Sunday, December 12th at 2:30 pm.

YOUTH GROUP LOCK-IN
The lock in is a green light, open to 7th grade and older. We have good plans but could use a few more parent volunteers.

BURDEN-BEARING GROUP
Meets again Dec. 21 at 6pm.

A GOD-LIVED LIFE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM
Dec 5 - A Life of Hospitality
Jan 8 - A Shrewdly Lived Life
You will find personal commitment cards with explanations in your mailbox at church.

READ THE BIBLE CLUB IN 2022
We will have a "read through the Bible" group meeting Monday nights at 6:30pm in 2022. If you want to participate, you should go ahead and buy "The One Year Bible: Arranged in 365 Readings, NIV edition."
Each participant has a few different options:
- Read the whole Bible
- Read the Old Testament only
- Read the New Testament only
- Read Psalms and Proverbs only
- Some combination of the previous three.
- If you don't finish all the readings each week, you'll still benefit from the discussions on Mondays.
If you'd like to propose a second time to meet each week, I'd be glad to do that if we can get a handful of people to commit to attending regularly. Please note, this is not a normal Bible study. We will all read the Bible about 15 minutes each day and then discuss a week's worth of readings when we meet.

There are plenty of other Bibles out there. The Bartons have enjoyed the "One Year Chronological Bible". Consider asking for or giving such a gift for Christmas.
PRAYER CONCERNS:
  • Continue to pray for our home-bound members: Maria Baerman, Carol Taylor, Carole Boyette, Christine Glardon, Chuck and Jean Johnson, Beverly Van Epps, and Louise Scherschel.
  • The Vine's offer on a building in Hayden
  • Glen Metzger as he deliberates a call to teach here
  • Rachel Taasaas as she deliberates a call
  • The Thaemerts who are a little sick after attending Dale's brother's funeral.
  • Let God move people to attend church this Christmas season and make that possible by keeping COVID numbers low.
  • Ask God to intervene so that we are able to get our second modular in a timely enough manner to retain our current student body without having to turn any away.
  • Paul Hein who is in the hospital.
  • The family of Michelle Most's aunt Gisela, who entered eternal life this week.
  • Dennis McFarland who was hospitalized with a heart problem this week.
  • The family of Keith Mateo as they mourn the loss of his mother Cecil this week.
