New ODEON version released!

Just after the start of the new year we are pleased to announce that ODEON 17 has just been released! As always, the new version includes attractive new features and speed enhancement.

• The Auditorium and Combined editions of ODEON 17 come with a Material Calculator module, which makes it possible to create your own materials.
• ODEON Industrial and Combined are equipped with a Sound Power Estimation tool which allows estimating the sound power levels of sources, based on a number of SPL measurements.
• The Auditorium and Combined editions include greatly improved tools for handling multi-source auralisations, making it a breeze to transfer a complete orchestra simulation from one of our many OdeonZipArchives.
• Source-receiver editing becomes even easier with a series of interface improvements.
• Most of the colours in layers, reflections and other illustrations can now be fully customized.
• Loudspeaker cabinet illustrations that come with common directivity files are displayed in the 3DView.

New SketchUp plugin SU2Odeon 3.00

Together with ODEON 17, we have just released the newest SketchUp plugin SU2Odeon 3.00 which makes it possible to export ODEON models (.par files) into SketchUp, even if a SketchUp model does not exist yet.  
Currently, you can download the plugin from our homepage, but soon it will be available on the SketchUp Extension Warehouse. 

ODEON Courses in 2022

Our next joint Basic course, Measurement workshop and Master Class will take place between 4 and 8 April 2022. We are looking forward to meeting you here in Denmark. 
The Basic course is given by C. L. Christensen, G. Koutsouris and M. A. Montoya Sandoval while the Measurement Workshop and the Master Class are given mainly by Prof. J. H. Rindel, the founder of Odeon A/S. The program is based on active participation, which is a great opportunity for the participants to share their cases and get the most out of them.

Our recent paper on Audio Effects

In September we presented our most recent research on Audio effects for multi-source auralisations at the International Conference on Immersive and 3D Audio 2021.
One of the biggest challenges in making realistic multi-source auralisations is the requirement of different and uncorrelated anechoic recordings. ODEON's set of audio effects helps create such different recordings, by varying an original signal in terms of pitch, speed, duration, amplitude etc. The variations can be performed randomly by an automated process, which can produce large sets of files for complex auralisations. Two examples are a string orchestra, constructed out of a few instrument recordings and a crowd in a cafeteria, constructed from a male and a female speech recording.    

Article on archaeological acoustics

Our recent article on archaeological acoustics presents an overview of this interdisciplinary research field, through the areas of archaeological sites, lithophony, ancient theatres, worship spaces, and liturgical archaeology. There is also a discussion on digital modeling, virtual reality and augmented reality, which have recently contributed to increasing research activity in the field.
