MOWBRAY PRECINCT CRIME REPORT

Hi, All:

The following incidents reported to Mowbray SAPS: 
 
NOVEMBER 15 - 21
 
BURGLARIES
  • In Park Road, Park Estate, during the night on Wednesday, mountain bikes taken after a garage door was forced open
  • In Vredenburg Road during the morning on Thursday, jewellery stolen after intruder gained access by removing roof tiles
  • In Upper Liesbeek Road during the night on Saturday, laptop, clothing, shoes and jewellery taken after a door was forced open
  • In Lancaster Road on Sunday between 8.20-8.40am, wallet containing various cards stolen by fishing through open window  
ROBBERIES
  • In St Peters Road at 3.30pm on Friday, a hair salon was raided by a gang of four men who stole hair products, cellphones and cash
  • In Liesbeek Parkway at 4.30pm on Saturday, a pedestrian was robbed of his backpack and cellphone by two men armed with a gun
  • In Liesbeek Parkway at 5.10pm on Sunday, police arrested two men armed with a knife who had robbed a pedestrian of his cellphone  
ANOTHER MOTORCYCLE WAS STOLEN
  • A BMW taken from Bridge Street between 5.00-6.00pm on Thursday  
THREE CARS WERE REPORTED BROKEN INTO
  • Liesbeek Road between 6.00-11.00pm on Tuesday (radio stolen)
  • Lower York Road during the night on Tuesday, a suspect was caught  after taking clothing from a parked car
  • Smith Street between 3.00-10.00pm (car radio)  
ARREST
  • Police arrested a woman in Victoria Road at 12.15pm on Wednesday in possession of a stolen black BMX bicycle

NOVEMBER 22 - 28
 
MURDER 
  • A security guard at a building site in Sybrand Park was murdered by trespassers in the early hours of Sunday morning (November 28). According to the latest report from Mowbray police, the incident took place just after 1am in Elgin Road when the man was struck on the head with a sharp object and died at the scene. Investigations are ongoing and police have appealed to residents to examine CCTV footage taken during that period in the hope that it will provide some clues to the murder.  
BURGLARIES
  • In Surbiton Road just after midnight on Wednesday, an intruder made off with a Macbook and personal documents before being disturbed by the resident
  • In Forth Road during the early hours of Wednesday morning, a laptop and two cellphones were stolen after a thief gained entry through an open window while the occupant was sleeping
  • In Main Road during the course of the afternoon on Saturday, a thief forced the door of house and made off with a laptop, cellphone and clothing  
ROBBERY
  • A pedestrian robbed os his cellphone and cash by a gang of three muggers at Mowbray railway station at 11.30am on Friday  
CARS BROKEN INTO
  • Forth Road during the night on Monday (golf equipment and shoes)
  • Mont Clare Road at about11,30am on Wednesday (grass cutter)
  • Bollihope Road between 2.50-2.55pm on Thursday (laptop)
  • Bridge Street during the night on Tuesday (hub-caps and petrol tank)  
THANKS: to an alert security guard, an ATM fraudster who attempted to scam a customer at 7.40am on Friday was apprehended and handed over to police.

SECTOR 2 MEETINGS

Due to COVID & lockdown these meetings came to a stop but there have been a requests to get them up and running again

BACKGROUND: Mowbray SAPS is divided into 2 Sectors and Little Mowbray and Rosebank together with Sybrand Park & Park Estate fall into Sector 2 and W/O Renicia Avontuur is our Sector Manager

PURPOSE OF THE MEETINGS: An opportunity for SAPS to sit down with representatives from each neighbourhood to discuss policing, safety & security and of course for the residents to build up a working relationship with SAPS

ATTENDEES: Due to COVID the meetings will be kept small and each attendee will be asked to give feedback to their residents and orgnanisations
  • W/O Renica Avontuur from Mowbray SAPS will attend as well as a representatives from Sybrand Park & Park Estate

From Rosebank & Little Mowbray the following people will be attending:
  • Jonathan Hobday (CPF Chair)
  • Louisa Williams (Rosebank Neighbourhood Watch)
  • Dave Sivertsen (Civics/LMRID/LMNHW)
  • Patsy Taylor (LMRID/LMNHW)

When reporting on the Security Groups please take note of the following guidelines: 




 
REFUSE COLLECTION
  • Although it is much improved there are still a few people who put their bins out the night before - please read the flyer below
  • Consider recycling - it reduces the the "fallout" from bin pickers
  • If possible empty your black bags into your bin - bin pickers have a tendency to remove the black bags and take them away to go through (see pics below) 
  
 

SOCIAL


 
To bring a bit of Christmas Cheer to those who have chosen to work with Ingrid on the social upliftment program we ask if you would please consider contributing some groceries to make up hampers that will be given to them at a special lunch that Ingrid will be arranging in a few weeks time

Any good 2nd hand clothing always welcome

Closing date for collections will be next  Friday the 10th of December

To the people that allow their dogs to  poop in the park
it is not cool
please take a poo bag and pick after your pooch!

We don’t want to exclude pets from the park
