Dear <<First Name *>>,
“I thought having Amtrak Joe in the White House was going to fix everything?” some of you have told me. I’ll go back to what I said last Fall (November 20th, 2020, if you’d like to go back and look yourself): “Amtrak Joe has no magic wand to wave.”
Between all of our wins and the election of “Amtrak Joe” Biden to the White House, we’ve actually seen contributions decline. And we’ve heard from some corners that the big fights are over and there’s no need for urgency. Well, we know that’s not true. With $66 billion in the newly passed Investment in Infrastructure and Jobs Act (IIJA) – including many billions that will be subject to competition – the big fights are just beginning.
I’d caution against reacting to passing the Jobs Act with a sense of complacency. With historic funding now up for grabs, we must make sure Congress, Amtrak, public agencies and, potentially, private operators steward the funds to best benefit all rail passengers.
As a small 501(c)3 organization, we rely on your generosity and partnership. The research we conduct, the educational programming we produce, and our collaboration with our local, state and federal legislative partners all have costs. Please donate today to the Rail Passengers Association so we can continue this crucial work.
