December 2 and 3
Take A Deep Dive on Offshore Wind
Our community is at the forefront of US offshore wind development. We are witnessing firsthand the hurdles and complicated interests and considerations inherent in these projects. Learn more detail about the wind industry by joining sessions offered during this two day online event. Discussion will focus on necessary policies, government actions and market structures to make offshore wind a scalable utility and able to help our country reach its energy goals.
 MVC Carbon Storage Study
The MV Commission, in partnership with the Woodwell Climate Research Center was excited to receive an anonymous gift for half of the $300,000 needed to launch a project titled Assessing the Land Carbon Dynamics and Storage Potential of Martha's Vineyard. This will help them understand and determine land and water use policies to protect and enhance the Island's functions as a carbon sink.

In your year end giving consider supporting this study and the Carrying Capacity & Supply Chain Study planned in partnership with Nantucket and the Army Corps of Engineers. These scientific studies are critically important as they will inform the analysis that underpins our climate adaptation strategies. Contributions can be sent to: Climate Action Fund, c/o Martha's Vineyard Community Foundation, PO Box 243, West Tisbury, MA 02575.
Or donate on the MVCF website, specify Climate Action Fund.

Climate Stories Go On The Air
Island Climate Action Network and WMVY are working together bringing local Climate Stories to the radio. Laurel Reddington from WMVY is currently doing a series of interviews spotlighting community members' experiences with steps being taken as the Island adapts to climate change. Listen to the first of these interviews, with VTA electric bus driver Andre Bonnell!
Learn More About EV Ownership From Your Neighbors
The local magazine Blue Dot Living covers environmental topics from recycling to solar panels. If you are on the fence about EV ownership and want to hear personal experiences that describe owning and driving an EV on MV check out this Blue Dot interview with Greg Milne
The Season of Giving
If your holiday traditions involve gift giving read this piece from the NY Times that reminds us to shop local, and suggests minimizing shopping in general, since gifting items with personal history or sharing an experience can often be the best gifts of all. The things we accumulate, and our habits of consumption -- backed by the materials, energy and transportation that make them possible -- have huge implications for climate change and the overall well being of our planet. May your holidays be filled with less stuff and more community, family and joy.
We Leave You With This Thought
Collectives do not emerge from the tops of institutions. They begin with one person and then another, the invisible social space where commitment and action join together to become a dyad, a group, a team, a movement. To put it simply: no one is coming to help. There is not a brain trust that is going to work out the problems while we ponder and wait. The most complex, radical technologies on earth are the human heart, head and mind, not a solar panel.
Paul Hawken in Regeneration
Thank you for being a part of our Vineyard initiative to take meaningful climate action.  Please do all you can in your life, our community, and beyond to make all the difference possible on this critical issue.
And please share this newsletter with family and friends and encourage them to join the ICAN mailing list--the more of us we have working together for climate, the stronger we will be!
