3 New DSD Albums

This week we released 3 New DSD Albums at NativeDSD! Featuring music from Louis Armstrong & His All Stars, Maya Fridman with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sander Teepen and the Bragernes Church Youth Choir conducted by Beate Strømme Fevang.

Save 25% Off on all three by getting them before end of day on November 30, 2021 during our Black Friday Sale!

“The Forest in April” is exclusively available in Stereo DSD 512 at NativeDSD Music.

In 2020-2021, cellist Maya Fridman was artist in residence at the Utrecht-based Tivoli Vredenburg. Through the artistic leadership of this venue, contact was made with the composer and a new initiative came about, with support from the Fonds Podiumkunsten. De Graaff was commissioned to compose a new work for Fridman, which was later titled “Concerto no. 5, The Forest in April“.

In March 2021 “The Forest in April” had its premiere in Utrecht, performed by Maya Fridman and the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nicolò Foron. Enthusiastically, De Volkskrant writes: “After a solo cadence that lasts for minutes, in which Fridman is allowed to indulge her qualities as a playing animal, a fierce battle ensues. Angular orchestral motifs alternate with the cello’s seething dissonance. Even here the composer mixes the timbres so skillfully that beauty lurks even in the discordant sounds.

“Colours of Christmas” is exclusively available in Stereo DSD 512, DSD 256, DSD 128, DSD 64 and DXD at NativeDSD Music.

Beate Strømme Fevang says: “Colours of Christmas contains a collection of beautiful carols that arise out of the Christmas message of hope, anticipation, and joy. Together with the girls in the choir we have selected 15 carols that mean a lot to them and for which they have a special fondness.

More than half the music is Norwegian, written by composers Kim André Arnesen, Svein Møller, Tove Knutsen and Fredrik Sixten. The last-mentioned is Swedish but was formerly Director of Music of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, where he also lives. Many of the carols have never been recorded, and in this process, we have had an exciting collaboration with several of the composers.

The tracks on the album vary between a cappella choir and choir with instrumental accompaniment. Working with the instrumentalists has been very inspiring and an enriching experience for the choir and has contributed to the growth and development of the young singers. The recordings have been made in the marvelous acoustic setting of Bragernes Church, which is the choir’s regular venue.”

“Now You Has Jazz” is exclusively available in Stereo DSD 512 at NativeDSD Music.

Armstrong is backed by Trummy Young on Trombone, Joe Darensbourg on Clarinet, Billy Kyle on Piano, Billy Cronk on Bass, Danny Barcelona on Drums, and Jewell Brown on voice.

The album includes 7 of Armstrong’s best-known songs including C’est Si Bon (It’s So Good), Someday, When It’s Sleepy Time Down South, Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen, When The Saints Go Marching In, Jerry, and Now You Has Jazz.

Whether they called Louis Armstrong “Satchmo” or simply the “man with the silver trumpet”, millions of people, from Mongolia to Munich, Milano, and Mozambique, recognized the cherubic countenance, gravel voice, and high, rhythmic notes. The music that bought thousands to greet him and hear him wherever he went – the magnetism was, at times, as awesome as his music could be. Louis Armstrong was one of the greatest musicians Jazz ever produced– and few, if any, will argue against this – the greatest.

This album has been transferred from the Original Analog Master Tape to Stereo DSD and DXD by Rene Laflamme at 2xHD Mastering. A Stereo DSD 512 edition of Now You Has Jazz has been prepared by Tom Caulfield at the NativeDSD Mastering Lab. The album is only available in Stereo DSD 512 at NativeDSD.
