✧push picks #006✧

welcome back to another installment of push picks! this week, we're so excited to share the stage with artist Ilana Harris-Babou. read below to find her picks for the week, and be sure to check out her infinite object on the push projects collection before it's gone!
 🌠🌱💗

ilana's current project
I'd like to plug the short documentary we made for my recent survey exhibition Wholesome Fun at Kunsthaus Hamburg. There's also a 3D scan of the show here.

ilana's social impact

A great project to contribute to is The Other Almanac. Some of my collages will be printed in the final project. Here's how Ana Ratner, the creator, describes it:

"The Other Almanac is a reimagining of The Old Farmer's Almanac. In case you don't know it, the Old Farmer's Almanac is the oldest continuous print publication in the US. Although it's advertised as "for everyone", it's limited culturally, does not take stands and has historically catered to rural white american farmers.

I think there is huge potential for a new almanac - one that is deep, meaningful, and bridges across the urban and rural divide here in the US. There will still be small wisdoms, articles, tips, calendars, and star guides, but it will include words and art from professors, adult industry workers, farmworkers, scientists, medicine makers, incarcerated poets, activists, astrologers, midwives, and more."
ilana's film of the week
I watched Titane last night, and it's a wild ride! It is tense and hilarious. I usually can't handle body horror, but the colors and textures of the universe in the film really pulled me in.
ilana's song of the week
I recommend Ganar by Pape Thiopet. I don't speak Wolof, so I have no idea what he's talking about, but it has such amazing high energy. I recommend listening while driving on the highway, or running to catch a train.
ilana's flower of the week
I've never seen a Purple Beard Orchid in person, but hopefully I will someday. I hear they grow in Tasmania? I also heard recently that orchids are the most ancient flowers on the earth. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can confirm.
ilana's bread pick
I often get cravings for the bread from Sub Rosa Bakery in Richmond, VA. Their polenta loaves are especially amazing.
