Heyla!

Heading into the last month of 2021 and I wonder where it has all gone. Time is a strange thing, never running at the speed of expectation. As we look back on the year, let's take some time to reflect on all we've gained and lost, to slow down and appreciate joy where we can find it. Those small beauties, the little moments of calm, they are precious.

NaNoWriMo success achieved November 17, 2021!

Not only did I blow this out of the park, but I kept writing the entire month so my final word count surpassed 70,000 words , which is the best I've done since I started participating in NaNoWriMo a few years ago. I was happy to have discovered the joys of writing again, unfortunately there is only one thing wrong with my newest work... it's not The Rebels of Psiere. I had this fanfic idea that I COULD NOT IGNORE and I've been feverishly working on it since October 24th. I actually mentioned it in the writing updates of my November newsletter.

I'm currently at 102,000 words and it's definitely different from the cannon Supergirl universe. It will also be a fantastic addition to my Children of the Stars world once it's converted. Of course it will be edited and posted as fanfic first, because I would never deprive my fans or fellow #Supercorp shippers. The show may be finished by my OTP will live on in the minds of creators forever. Click on the picture to read the prologue and first few chapters now.

Never fear though, when this is finished, I'll barrel full steam into Rebels. That one is 1/3 finished and I've got it pretty well plotted out.

Author Spotlight Introduction
Can you believe I'm launching the last Author Astronaut of 2021? Award-winning author Rachel Ford is a software engineer by day, and a writer most of the rest of the time. She is a Trekkie, a video-gamer, and a dog parent, owned by a Great Pyrenees named Elim Garak and a mutt of many kinds named Fox (for the inspired reason that he looks like a fox).

Writing Updates:

  • The Last Scion of El came out of nowhere and demanded to be written. I've been busy over the past 5 weeks and I'm in the home stretch on this fic. I'll edit it and post on AO3 fully complete. Sometime next year I'll convert it to a new story in my Children of the Stars world, to take place probably 10-15 years after the Chromodec uprising. Obviously the name of the new book will change, as will some details. But I've got one eye on the novel prize as I write it and I'm making notes about what to change for alignment.
  • The Rebels of Psiere will be my number one priority as soon as I finish the superhero story. I've mentioned before how fickle my muse is, and she reared her intractable head over the past month. Sorry, but this will be out next year. I'll get it done, on my word.
  •  It Was the End of Days on AO3 is currently tabled for the time being. Sorry friends!

Use the links and logos in my signature line to find me elsewhere. OTW Member logo will take you to my AO3 fanfic page, where you can read free fiction to your heart's content. Flashpoint logo takes you to my publisher author page, etc.

As always, thank you for your continued support, because a voice is nothing without people to hear. Read, rate, and review. I'm always glad to answer emails and love to see feedback. Drop me a line for all questions, comments, and criticisms. I genuinely want to get better and I'm open to all. Thank you, friends!

[START AUTHOR TRANSMISSION]

Name: Rachel Ford
Publisher: Indie, and NineStar Press
Reason you started writing: I’ve been dreaming up stories as long as I can remember, and writing them down as soon as I learned to write. I’ve continued to write since, because I *need* to. (Although, the quality has presumably improved somewhat in the interim.
🌝) K. Aten notes: It truly is a need, isn't it?
Next book to release & when: Black Port - January 1, 2022
Why we should read it: Dragons, sexy pirates, and lots of derring-do. <grins>

Name something you're proud of in regards to your writing: My series starter Safe Passage was the 2019 Lesfic Bard Science Fiction award winner – which was an awesome moment early in my writing career. K. Aten notes: A big congrats to my fellow Lesfic Bard Award sci-fi winner!!

Cats or Dogs: Both. Although (shh, don’t tell the other pets) my Great Pyrenees is definitely the baby. 🐶🐕🐱🐈 K. Aten notes: I promise not to tell. Your favoritism secret is safe with me. LOL
Coffee/Tea/Water: Coffee, dark roast with a little milk; and water with ice. 😊
Weapon of choice during Zombie Apocalypse: Ohh…good question. I don’t know that I have an IRL answer, but this is all my all-time favorite apocalypse weapon for feral ghouls (roughly the equivalent of zombies): The Rebar ClubK. Aten notes: Pretty sweet, crude but effective. Yup, I totally followed that link to see the picture.

A mysterious newcomer. Strange new infatuations. A cursed treasure.

A beautiful stranger arrives in Little Eerie asking questions about an ancient treasure. The jarl is smitten at first sight. He’s sick with love for her.
