Welcome!

Welcome to December with all of its speed and demands.  We know you are working hard to create meaning and memories for your family and those you love. This month we wanted to present something just for you.

Recently, we met with Dana Solomon, an Occupational Therapist specializing in pelvic floor health.  She shared some Pelvic Floor 101 with us and we were fascinated.  We have included one of her articles on pelvic floor health in this newsletter that we think you will enjoy.  Dana has also graciously offered to host a free zoom, Pelvic Floor Health 101 call with our community.  In her attached article she shares how postpartum is not 2 weeks or 2 years after birth but your whole life post-childbirth.  Other countries have pelvic floor health as a routine part of postpartum care and in the United States that just isn't the case.  We often dismiss issues related to our pelvic floor as, “just how it” is after having a baby.  Dana states that “You are worthy of living in a body that functions as expected and feels good.”  and we couldn’t agree more.  We hope you will carve out a little time for yourself, relax with a cup of tea or wine, and join her from the comfort of your home on the evening of December 15th.  Be sure to register in order to receive the zoom link.

Wee Weekenders December 5th

Are you looking for an activity to do outside on the weekend? We offer a socially distanced outside Wee Weekenders class. This class will provide an opportunity to explore the outdoors and allow your child to engage in new materials. Routines continue to play an important role in your child's life, so our outside class will offer circle time, an activity, bubbles, and a book. All the materials will be provided or gathered when we meet.

At Home Fun

Baby Bubble Wrap Art

What you Need:

A Large Sheet of Bubble Wrap

Paint

Thick Strong Tape

Bubble Wrap is such a fun activity for babies, toddlers, and big kids. You can walk on it, use it as a road with your favorite cars, paint on it, pop it with your fingers. Here is one activity to do but please modify based on your child's age.

First, we need to create a bubble wrap packet.

Simply take a sheet of bubble wrap, fold it over with the bubbles on the outside and the seal sides with some strong tape.

Place some paint inside the packet and seal the remaining edge.
Tape the entire bubble wrap packet to the tray. This will prevent the baby from picking it up and putting it in his/her mouth.

To extend the sensory play, pick your baby up and bounce them on the bubble wrap!

To adapt this idea to create actual art, simply attach one layer of bubble wrap to a sheet of thick paper with paint inbetween.

This now becomes a sensory activity with some cool abstract art at end!

Have fun and Enjoy!

Quick and Easy Recipe

Sausage and Greens Sheet Pan Dinner

Shared by Rebecca Roper

Makes dinner for 4 people

1½ lb. micro potatoes (about 1" in diameter) or new potatoes, cut into 1" pieces
½ cup extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1¾ tsp. kosher salt, divided
½ tsp. freshly ground black pepper, divided
1 lb. (about 4 links) uncooked sweet or spicy Italian sausage or chicken sausage
3 Tbsp. sherry or red wine vinegar
1½ tsp. Dijon mustard
1½ tsp. honey
1 large bunch Tuscan kale or collard greens, stems removed, leaves torn into large pieces

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450°F. Toss potatoes, 2 Tbsp. oil, 1 tsp. salt, and ¼ tsp. pepper on an 18x13" rimmed baking sheet. Prick sausages all over with a sharp knife, then nestle among potatoes. Roast, turning sausage, and tossing potatoes halfway through until potatoes are lightly browned and just barely fork-tender and sausage is just cooked through, 12–14 minutes.

Step 2

Meanwhile, whisk vinegar, mustard, honey, and the remaining 6 Tbsp. olive oil, ¾ tsp. salt, and ¼ tsp. pepper in a large bowl. Pour about ¼ cup dressing into a small bowl or pitcher and reserve for serving. Toss greens in remaining (about 2 Tbsp.) dressing, using your hands to massage dressing evenly into leaves.

Step 3

Scatter dressed leaves in an even layer over sausage and potatoes. Roast, tossing greens halfway through until greens are tender and charred in places, 3–5 minutes.

Step 4

Separate sausage, potatoes, and greens into sections to serve, if desired, or toss all together. Serve with reserved dressing alongside.
