Dear Miami University Rowing Club Alumni and Family,

Despite Winter Break for our student athletes being right around the corner, there is still much work to be done during our off season.

In order to keep fitness up, all members of the team will complete a revamped winter training program crafted by our Men and Women's Captain, Ivan Wehner and Janie Petraglia. Utilizing both their experience and knowledge in the fields of rowing and exercise science, their program will ensure that the team is well trained and competitive for the upcoming spring season.

Beyond the realm of exercise, our executive board and chairs have been working tirelessly to launch our first ever Capital Campaign. Through these combined efforts, we hope to combat the rapidly growing age of our fleet and help support the massive growth of our team. This project has been a tremendous undertaking, combining many of the principals, disciplines, and teamwork found in the world in and outside of academia. We hope you can help us on our journey to ensuring the legacy of our team!

The Miami Rowing Club wishes you a wonderful and safe holiday season with family and friends, and we can't wait to keep you up to date on our next endeavors heading into the new year!

What is the Capital Campaign?

On November 29th, the Miami University Rowing Club officially launched our first capital campaign. Reigniting our program following the events of COVID-19 has sparked new life and ambitions into our crew. One of the major issues our current executive board has been faced with is our aging fleet, causing our boats to become unsafe and unreliable to row. Our current fleet’s age is around 17-18 years old, while most other crews we compete against is anywhere from 3-6 years. While the team is tremendously grateful for the equipment we have, we also recognize that the age of the boats are starting to show, and are in need of dire repairs and upgrades.

To help ensure the safety of our members and support the continuous growth of the team, our current board has decided to launch a capital campaign in order to raise money towards purchasing an affordable women's eight and help offset our total equipment costs. This campaign will serve as the first step in lowering the total average age of our fleet, and help secure our crews legacy and maintain our reputation as the premier student organization at Miami University.

Our team's current goal is to raise $20,000. A lofty target, but one that will secure the team's success and longevity for the future. Small contributions will go a long way and we greatly appreciate any support we may receive.

Why A Women's Eight?

The Varsity Women’s squad currently row a Vespoli shell that was manufactured in 2001, and is being utilized by mostly women younger than the shell itself. Apart of our initiative to decrease the overall age of the boats, we took steps in securing the Men's Varsity team a 2012 Hudson prior to COVID-19.  The purchasing of a new women's eight will secure the competitive nature that both the men and women of this team have been working so tirelessly towards.

Upkeep of this equipment is vital to the success of our Varsity Women and our program as a whole.
