Dear <<First Name>>,

Tonight city council votes on Total’s permit application to frack behind a children’s daycare. Council’s decision will tell us whether they value protecting Arlington’s children from polluting gas drilling or not.

Public Hearing on Gas Well Permit SUP09-21R2
Tonight: 6:30 PM at City Hall

Speak at Public Hearing

We need you to show up to city hall tonight and speak against the drilling permit.

Here are key points we suggest you include in your testimony:

  • The city must prioritize protecting the health of our children by saying no to the drilling permit - Arlington doesn’t need more fracking pollution near our schools or daycares.

  • City council should follow their gas well ordinance: Because there are homes within 600 feet of the drill zone, Total’s permit will need a setback waiver and a super majority vote to pass (7 of 9 council members in favor). Right now, the city is trying to pass the permit on a simple majority without a setback waiver, contradicting its own ordinance.

Here are instructions on attending and speaking at the hearing + talking points.

See Liveable Arlington’s Summary of Opposition for more arguments as to why city council must reject this drilling permit.

If you are unable to attend the public hearing, email your city council member and the mayor and tell them to say no to the drilling permit: How to email city council

Like and share our Facebook event page for the hearing and tell your friends to speak at the hearing.

The country is watching what Arlington City Council does in tonight’s vote. Let’s make sure they say no to fracking and yes to protecting our children.

See you all tonight!
