Highlights on

17th of November Campaign

The 17th of November aka International Student Day, OBESSU, as a member of the Global Student Forum, participated in the campaign #DontCutOurFuture. This campaign aimed at reclaiming better funding for education systems all over the world.

OBESSU, AASU, ESU, CSA, OCLAE and NZUSA, members of the GSF, released a Statement that showcased the challenges of students all over  the world and  compiled a series of demands such as long-term economic planning with meaningful investments in Education; schools financing including basic needs infrastructure, particularly around sanitation and hygiene, in eco-sustainable buildings; developing of educational settings to accommodate face-to-face learning while the COVID-19 pandemic persists, improving at the same time sustainable, equitable, and ethical digital platforms; addressing the unequal gendered power relations as a result of the COVID related school closures.

OBESSU's News

COMEM 2021

On the 27th and 28th of November, OBESSU had the pleasure to host its first hybrid event, which is nothing less than our Council of Members.

A total of 27 official delegates from the Membership joined the event in person in Brussels, while other 15 delegates joined the event online. Although challenging, the experience was more than positive. The level of discussions and fruitful discussions that took place during the event are not comparable to the ones happening during online event.

But what are the highlights of our COMEM?

- Two new organisations joined the OBESSU family as Candidates. Meet Mouvement National Lycéen (MNL) and the Secondary Students’ Union of Northern Ireland (SSUNI)
- We have approved a new Implementation Plan for 2022 and the Code of Conduct of the organisation, which sets the core values of OBESSU
- We have organised a student assembly on students' participation on decision-making
- We have finally met, talked, discussed and exchanged ideas after more than 1 year of online events.

It was a great reward to see our Members motivated and engaged and we cannot wait to replicate the experience.

ECMA Final Conference

On the 25th of November we hosted the final conference of our 2 years project European Changemakers Academy.

The outcomes of the projects, including the Massive Online Open Course, the Methodology and the policy recommendations were presented to an audience of activists and policy-makers.

All our Changemakers from Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland and Italy gathered in Brussels to present their local projects and experiences of change in their local communities.

The engagement was really high, at the point that we are already discussing how to keep the project running even after its official end. So, stay tuned!

Generation D-Liberation assembly during COMEM

The Generation d-Liberation project hold an assembly on the Conference on the Future of Europe and youth participation during OBESSU Council of Members. It was introduced by a panel with Viola Bianchetti from European Youth Forum and Elisa Gambardella from Solidar, followed by a discussion and voting on policy recommendations to improve youth participation at European level.  Finally participants came up with a series of demands such us to have the European Youth Event organised by young people, to have a seat reserved for students whenever education matters are discussed at the European level, to have simpler international participation procedures to actually encourage young people to engage. More demands and ideas came up from the discussion. If you want to know more, follow our social media.

If you want to organise an assembly please contact maria@obessu.org.

At the beginning of November,  OBESSU participated in the Peer Learning Activity (PLA) in Barcelona as a dissemination partner of the Sirius project led by the SIRIUS network - Policy Network on Migrant Education.
